wow, I had no idea you were a ‘more mature athlete’ You should be proud of that performance.

No swim (again) at Outlaw Full and middle.

Deadly Dozen, same event me and @APM did last year. Not my day and it was murder. Got mildly ill about 10 days ago and breathing hasn’t recovered, but stupidly set off racing and fell apart - some of my 400s were slower than 5:30/km pace

5 minutes slower than last year when quite confident I was fit enough to go 2-3 minutes faster if healthy. Nevermind, move on.

I am seriously considering deferring IM Barcelona even though accommodation is booked. It will be late holiday if nothing else.

I did Outlaw Middle last week, although I was glad the swim didn’t happen it would have been good for me. I went into it with some illness (yet again, seems to be a theme this year and no real reason for it, just seems… bad luck!)
I was sure multiple toilet stops would be needed, but they weren’t, not even one.

Anyway, so it became run-bike-run.

4.3km(5km inc T1)-85km-21.2km

I was second AG on run one from those in the 50-54 start pen, although in the overall results 3rd, 18:33 @ 4:22/km probably over did that a bit.

Bike was okay for 50km, even set some PRs, but then I just became so muscularly sore, the last 35km was grim and I lost it mentally in the strong winds (glad I took the road bike), about 2h57m glad I stayed under 3hr.

2nd run, great first 9km, then I exploded (first 5km was a comfortable 4:55 pace.) After 9.x km, I started to overheat, HR hit threshold and couldn’t bring it down, even a 100m walk it only came down a few beats. I did a bit of run walk thinking is would be good prep for IM Barc.
A bit of rain on the second lap was welcome, but it stopped. I got the HR under control and then started suffering with heat-spots (ffs) on the feet. So a bit more run/walk. At some point on the third lap I managed to run around this.
Run finished in 1hr54m my worst ever by 5 minutes but that is okay considering.

Total 5hr22.

That was the hardest half I have done by some way, and it didn’t even have a swim. lol.

I did the Cleveland Steelman middle distance Tri today.

It was a really good event, swim was great, nice lake. 36.13, which was nearly 2mins quicker than Slateman 6 weeks ago.

Bike was ok first lap, wind picked up on the second lap and my pace dropped off a bit. I’m used to riding plenty of hills, so on/off on power. This was more rolling with very little time off the tri bars, or any chance to relax. 92k in 2h44, thought I was on for 2h40 after the first lap, but fell away a bit.

Run was pretty flat, mixture of road, trail, grass. Again first lap went ok, averaged about 4.45/km on the first time round, then struggled again on the second lap, finishing in 1h41.54. I heard what sounded like a steam train coming up behind, at the end of the first lap, I thought it was Gordon pulling the express (reading too many Thomas the Tank stories to our toddler at the moment) turns out it was our very own denim-clad TC!

Overall 5.07, which was 8 mins faster than I had predicted.

Not helped by having 3.5hrs sleep last night. Went to sleep ok, woke up with cramp in my calf, I think (unusual), then I had 30min interruptions by our dog and eventually toddler.

Great result / time.

Well done, that’s a decent time on there as the bike is slightly long and roads are a bit coarse in places.

Run isn’t very fast either.

My friend did it but had problems on the bike and had to pump a slow puncture up about 4 times!

I’d accept a 50% refund for Barcelona I think, but I deferred last year and don’t think it’s an option. I have booked the flights and accommodation as well.

Just don’t think I’m going to get enough running in so bracing myself for a fair bit of walking :expressionless_face:

Yeah the roads are a bit rough in places, but no major potholes, unlike Derbyshire/yorkshire. I thought the run was ok, singletrack takes a bit more thought to avoid rolling an ankle. Starting at 10am is good, because it’s not an early start and you can travel from further afield, but it did mean the roads were pretty busy. They were mostly fairly wide roads, so cars etc could overtake ok.

Great work @Robin!

@Chriswim, congratulations on getting it done. I had a bad day last year, and the race quickly finds a way of making it much worse.

Steelman is a favourite of mine and if I get back to swimming it will be back on the schedule. Your times are pretty handy for a race that is not fast due to the swim, bike and run course choices

Has anybody done a RR10 trail race? I’d never heard of them but have an invite from LO’s club for parents to come and have a go. There’s one Wed evening in the New Forest.

Three races in 6 days coming up for me :grimacing: was a good idea at the time!

First up is ADH duathlon tomorrow, 6.5K/14k/5k. Forecast is 32C heat  which is going to make a sub 60 attempt more difficult, I’ll be going steady on the first run to give myself a chance and see what I’ve got left for run 2. I’ve got my bike garmin with virtual pacer set just under 13kph which is more like 56 for the climb. Assuming it works.

Starts at 3pm CET. Sub 2 would be nice but I suspect it’ll be over that given the heat.

Then the long triathlon on Wednesday at 9:30 CET, this really is just a training day, haven’t even brought the clipon tribars.

Think there’s live tracking for both via the website.

Assuming I can still run I’ve got a 16k trail run at Interlaken next Saturday, only 450m ascent and I think about half is on tarmac in and out of the town, I’ll be trying to avoid injuring myself at this one
