Is the ADH tri typically always at this time of year. Might be an easy sell if this years trip in a couple of weeks goes well.
(Assuming there is a tri and not just a duathlon)

Yes, usually first week in August, but always midweek races and drivable for you.
There’s a duathlon, short triathlon which pretty much go from T1 up the Alpe, although the swim is out of town.
Then the long race, it’s a 2.2k swim, bike is 120k but 3 significant climbs so 5 hours is a decent pace. Run is 19k.
They’re all on different days as well so you can double up if the Mrs is alright with that!
And a kids race but not sure about age range.
As @jeffb has said the triathlons work out well for school holidays, we have done it twice in '11 & '16 or '17. With the 3 races to choose from it’s also an easy sell to get clubmates/friends to take families along which can make things that bit more convivial.
I think there’s a big campsite at the bottom of the climb and edge of BDO if that’s your thing, or plenty of chalets and apartments to rent. I’m about 5k out.
Thank you gents - Jeff I’ll be keeping a close tab on your Strava profile!
TLDR - a lot tougher than I expected today and the heat was pretty savage, well off the ride target bur knew it wasn’t happening at the start after the first run.
But, still fairly pleased that I kept it going, well inside the top half despite having no real chance to get used to the heat and climbs like that.
Was 6/39 in my age group so I’ll take that.
Longer version!
Even freewheeling down to the start I was sweating, wasn’t just the heat but the sun strength. Got down and tried to find some shade and take water on, while I waited for the start. My HR was probably 15 bpm higher just sitting down!
As planned I started a bit further back to avoid getting dragged along, it’s a single gun start so the usual suspects near the front that were slower. It opened up to get past some. HR was still around 5K effort at nearly 5:10K pace but we were going uphill as well but just couldn’t get it down. It was also very dusty and my mouth was bone dry, which wasn’t helping and the aid station wasn’t big enough for nearly 900 people in about 8 minutes. I suspect most wouldn’t normally get something after 2.5K
I kept going and got a longer drink at T1 including some energy drink. By the time I’d got to the bike my water was hot
I dawdled a bit before an easy plod to the climb. HR was still through the roof and hardly any shade.
I just got going and watched the virtual pacer disappear on my garmin so I changed it to distance etc. meanwhile my Garmin watch was having a meltdown and decided I’d gone back to running it was that slow, guess auto transitions aren’t so good on that route. This is partly why some of it isn’t on Strava.
I kept going and was going past quite a few people but when I reached the aid station what I thought was energy drink was coke and I don’t like caffeine after 2pm otherwise I don’t sleep well! Eventually got to the second aid station and got some energy drink but it was pretty weak.
With about 9K of the climb we finally got some cloud cover and a breeze in a few places which was refreshing. But in the last few bends I could feel myself slowing and a couple of people went back past me. Finally made it to T2. I was in no rush and put my trainers and cap on and jogged out.
My HR did start to finally drop but I suspect I was also needing more carbs.
My knee was a bit tight and sore and a lot of the first half is on trail, there’s also a fair bit of climbing. I was getting caught by a few people but started improving after we reached the aid station.
I’d noticed my Garmin had stopped
so I didn’t know how far I’d gone and started it again but it thinks it was part of the bike ![]()
I was fairly sure I was getting closer and then saw a nice downhill with some trail and clicked for a bit, went past a few but it was further than I thought
went over the line and slumped on the floor in the recovery position ![]()
Took a while before I was recovering so I was pleased that I knew I’d put a decent effort in for the conditions.
Dreading Wednesday now, although the bike will start earlier and it was a bit cooler at the top but it’s going to be well over 8 hours and if the knee is sore I might cut it short.
Mega stuff, well done @jeffb.
#teamjeffrey.
Well done Jeff, top stuff and great effort in the heat. ![]()
Good race and report
Well done
That sounded tough ![]()
Good man @jeffb , always look forward to your race reports, always inspirational & motivational.
(Take care tomorrow, going to be another hot one
)
Well done.
Did you see Ian Dickens?
Think he was on TT1.0, not sure if he is on here now.
Think he came third AG M55-59.
Regarding Garmin, I dont have auto transistions on, but at Outlaw it recorded everything as a run.
The lap button unknown to me is now a lap button (short press).
You now need a long press and hold to move to the next activity.
It was news to me, a Garmin change since last September when a short press changed the activity, you couldn’t lap as far as I know, you can now though.
Short press of lap button = lap
Long press = next activity
Ffs Garmin, it took me ages to sort out the FIT file, into run-bike-run.
I think I saw his name on the results, I was only around 15 minutes behind.
There isn’t a default duathlon activity and I had to create it but did see it pop up saying long press, it was more the fact it decided to change back when I was crawling up the hill!
I used auto transition on the triathlon a few weeks ago and it worked well but it’s easier to tell if you’ve gone from swimming to T1 and a faster bike.
Our man in France is out of the Lac du Jaunay.
It’s going to be hot, humid with possible thunderstorms ![]()
Chill factor 31c ![]()
Ian takes his sport very seriously and is a fit guy.
An so in my old job ( I think he left recently too?!)
Managed to beat him in a couple of races a few years back .. Jesus .. I’d my hours behind ( let alone 15 mins ) home now
More importantly he had a faster hyrox time than me ?!? .. but that could change next year ?
Lovely fella too.
Honestly didn’t think @jeffb would leave T2 & get on with the run with the heat & his bad knee…but he has ![]()
I imagine he’s skipping along & passing great vibes along to everyone he meets.
Good lad.
I’ll feel like a shit now if he has to pull out ![]()
