Do you have to keep your hr below a certain number?
Seems that on any average or not so great day im ok until HR creeps up, hence even a minor bump when running making me a bit wheezy but Im ok on steady turbo (controlled) and swimming (my HR is lower for RPE when swimming, probably as it is non weight bearing) but i do have good days as well where i can push, but might affect me more next day. Was struggling a bit today until my ride, but im always worse after a bad nights sleep, (its too hot currently), some harder exercise (yesterdays trail run was slow but hilly so HR crept up) or when ive been a bit stressed (kids eh!)
Feeling good now though
Stick at it big guy ( sensibly! ) none of us going to the Olympics ( maybe doka?!)
We all still have our dreams though…
Bit by bit
The best film Kim Basinger never made.
Day 3 lunchtime
1900m swim of 200 kick drills (50Fly on Bk, 50 KonS L , 50 KonS R and 50 NAD) into 30 x 50 of 10@4RPE off 10sec RI , 10@6RPE pull off 20sec RI , 10@8RPE pull/paddles off 30sec RI
200 CD, no FC
felt ok, easy 50s were ~50secs, medium 45-47 and fast was more like medium as 44-46 (died a bit of a death). Was going to stick my take home sprints in but was too tired
might have an easy spin on the turbo depending on swim dad commitments tonight
Day 3 evening, quick 1.5 group ride on Zwift, 33mins, 16km nice and easy Z1 spin.
Day 4, 4k “run” around the flattish park whilst el niño actually ran.
Legs hurt more than chest today. Not sure if thats good or bad
Day 5, 4.4k trail loop in almost identical time to Monday but lower HR and legs werent too achy either. Did a little spin on Zwift last night also just to recover a bit.
Feeling better already.
Solid start H keep it rollin
Enforced rest day today, XC season started for el niño and its “Dieciocho” weekend so a bit of a gathering of Chileans. Did walk the XC course and got in my 10k steps.
Stick at it !
Last day of my updates this week, wont continue to bore you, zwift climb portal, about an hour, pushed it a bit and felt ok.
Week 1 -
swim 1.9km 33mins

Run 12.8km (8.8k trail) 1hr 37min
6/7 days 5hrs 20min
- 9600 avg steps 3 > 12k
Consistent start.
Keep posting?
At least weekly?
Stick at it!
Wk 2, less consistent in a way as only 5 days due to work , coaching, life etc
Goal was to build time on feet most days with purposeful walks, (recorded on garmin as they are not just walking but extra) and increase longest run/ride
No swim, meh
Bike 2 sessions , long was 1hr 35mins, 48 zwift km
Run did 3 sessions, longest was 45mins, 6.26km
Bike total 2hr 15 for 70k
Run 15km ish for 1hr 50ish
Walked monday twice to drop car and pick up, 9km total plus another recovery walk of 5k yesterday after my long bike of about an hour
6hr 35 inc 2 recorded walks.
Daily steps 2 x 15k, 1 x 14k, 1 x 10k, 2 x 5ish k. Today only 3 so far as plumbing issues, meetings, watching tri!
9800 avg steps this week
Chest been reasonable really, HR lower on longer runs as a bit fitter so not an issue there
Next week
4 runs, > 15km , long run about same.
3 bikes, long bike bit more maybe but try and hit 100 zwift km
Swim, building speed over 25m.
Just catching up on this thread. Brilliant stuff Hammerer and I find none of this boring. I don’t have long covid, but I do have quite bad asthma and all my sport is dictated by my lungs and how they feel. Anyway, i just wanted to say you’re doing amazing and keep it up Also, swimming has always positively influenced my lung strength, which then helped my running
Joining the dark side
I didnt go into the office; usually my guilt free swim day(s) and it was a little awkward last week getting there due to car in garage one day, dental trips, running mum to doctors. i forgot how easy it is to train when you actually work in an office , commute twice, guilt free lunch swim/run, leave at 6:15 for a 7am swim. So many options and WFH I end up on school runs, chores etc! Was going this morning but el nino is off school sick now also!.
Will sneak in a run as its a lovely autumnal day here, sun with that chilly bite in the air. love these days outside! Autumn is my favourite month by far, the smells, colours, the sunny cool days. cant beat it.
week 3,
1 Swim - 40mins - 2km FC and BK felt Ok though
4 bikes - 4th was long but split by 2 hours (50k and 1hr40mins) - ~4hrs 45mins - 139 Zwift KM - all relatively steady
4 runs - long increased to 7km (50mins) 2hrs 20mins ~19.5km
total 7hrs 45mins
no purposeful “recorded” walks (a couple of 3k with no reason but not recorded) this week as I did more “real” exercise avg 9.5k steps, 2 days ~14k, 1 less than 4k
Running is at the point my legs don’t ache 1km in, the 7k was tough going after about 4.5k (did 3 laps of park and after 2nd took a bit of willpower to start the 3rd), but I think 4k now is just a run (as it should be) rather than a chore. Nearly 20k in a week is the most in over 2 years!
Chest has been the best it has felt in a very long time (coincidence or the improved fitness?). A couple of mornings were not great but soon lifted. Still on 2 * 200mg twice a day of Fostair but recon i need a trip to the doctors to start to reduce this down and see how it goes as usual I forgot a couple of evenings with no discernible difference.
3 weeks in, improved every week, will have an easier one this week, maybe not in distance or time, but mentally I wont be forcing myself out every day. Will also try to hit the pool most days as a form of recovery and might try to start a bit of mobility and bodyweight strength work again.
Nice!
Keep going
2 weeks of next to nothing, a virus of some sort. Felt a bit bad on the monday and cut swim short, Tuesday thought I was getting a cold , but cold didnt materialise. Just felt a bit achy and low on energy for 2 weeks, and went straight for the chest which was the stop signal. Last week slowly inproving so did a couple of short swims and some zwifts but couldnt run. Still not right but better start to this week. Ran 5.25k yesterday, nice and easy but cut swim short again today as not feeling it. Run tomorrow hopefully and see where im at.
