A Tribute to Planet X

All of us, including myself are assuming this is a done deal and they will be closing. I am choosing optimism.

It could be a pre-pack, deal done Administration, or a buyer may be found. There is a sound business there, they just need to re-frame it a bit.

Look at Orro bikes - a relative newcomer that appear to be thriving, and ultimately are doing the same thing - selling far east, contract manufactured bikes. They are just framing it a little differently. (And maybe spending a little more on better paint finish.)

I dont have any pics but my first TT was a PX Stealth. Bought it on Cycle to Work and something happened and I never had to pay that final payment to own it for ever.

Took it to Magic Mike our local biker fitter and he took one look and said thats too small for you. Sold it to someone in my tri club

This appeared from 15 years ago on my FB feed today. About the only photo I have of my stealth.

Sold the frame but still use the saddle. Plastic chair in the background still exists though.

Yeah looked at a Venturi the other week, finish is excellent, way beyond the Trek that was in the same shop for 2 K more.

Loved my Exocet guru. Very fast bike , had to sell it in the end as I’d bought completely the wrong size and had been using a stem extender which isn’t safe on carbon forks apparently. Picture below is when I sold it for £700 including the disc.

Chap who bought it thought he was an electrical genius and the PX was incinerated when his garage burnt down due to his wiring. It’s replacement is a Trinity which I still have but it’s not the same  rest in peas Planet X , u is in heaven now wit the angles xxx

Their stuff always looked insanely cheap for what you were getting. FX rates in recent years must have been squeezing their margins quite a bit and rising interest rates would have massively increased the cost of financing a container of stock from the far east.

I’m not sure that the PX brand could take an increase in price to a more premium price point.

I agree, that is the biggest issue, but Ribble seem to have pulled it off.

This was my first ever cycle jersey, I loved it dearly!

PX tubs on my P2

I liked them but always felt a bit nervous riding on them, as I had no idea how to change a tub if I got a puncture.

probably could have learned, but it was some way down the list of priorities. I’m using the same logic to avoid disc brakes.

actually I never did get a puncture, but sold them anyway in favour of clinchers & peace of mind.

I’ve only rode tubeless very briefly and was impressed, but a good tubular tyre ( glued on) has to be the best riding “ experience” for me.
So responsive, and controlled.

Had two flats with tubs one was a taxi job one I mended with the sealant can in about a min, but yes always on my mind whilst riding on them.

I have 6? Xentis tub wheels, 3 have brand new gator skin tubs in them now as speed is less of a priority these days

Bike looks great !
