Advent Calendar Running

Imagine doing it in miles!

I did this a couple of years ago. I had the last week off work, so that was actually not too bad, just 2+ hours of run/walk. Week 3 was the killer, 90mins before work not fun, 90mins after work hard to find. At the beginning of the month I was still doing bike sessions…

Seems I didn’t run again until NYD mind.

That is mental to me. All relative I guess!

Excellent.

Yes, time is as mucha factor here as the creaking calf muscles, knees and achilles…

You weren’t tempted to split the sessions? Is that allowed :man_shrugging:

Not seen any rules as such…I might have to split sessions, but will try to avoid.

I made the rules, so could have split if I cared to. But in the end, finding the time mostly meant getting out early and just getting it done. It was Christmas '21, we were “advised” to WFH, to minimise contacts, so I could manage my time. And as I said, final week I was off work, so just got out early for a run/walk.

Making routes that fitted was the other challenge. The first few days was hard to find a loop that was short enough. But towards the end didn’t want to complete the run and still be miles form home! There is a ~1km circular track about a mile from my house, so I could run back to that point, make up the distance then run home.

Day 11…I need to think a little more clearly about the timing of the runs and nutrition…this post heavy lunch effort was an…errrr…effort. Tired quads and it took a little while to get going. i got into my stride after a short while and, whilst not quite flying, I do enjoy it once i am out. I don’t have many loops mapped out and therefore may mostly be reliant on out and backs. today’s was looking perfect, but the path was flooded at about 5.2 km and so I headed back and added a short loop. The score so far on the @fruit_thief paradox is 56 km.

XMAS ADVENT CALENDAR RUN: DAY 12 - 12KM. It’s getting a little tougher each day as I have still not allocated sufficient time and attention to mobilisation, cooling down, nutrition and hydration. Once again i opted for an out and back but changed the final destination at the last minute, opting to miss Allestree Park, but take in Marginal Gains hill instead…but i had forgotten how steep it was. The descent was hard on my quads which will begin to affect my knees. On the way back, i thought that i had turned too soon, turning at 5k instead of 6k and so my brain is already playing a few tricks on me. The thought of getting to the end and having an extra 2km was less than pleasant. The score now on the @fruit_thief paradox is 63 km.

6 pints of Guinness, jobs jobbed

Rather you than me, 3km home from dropping car off was laborious at best after 11km yesterday. Im not looking forward to the return journey later!

As I have been discovering, this is a logistical challenge far more suited to the summer. Short days mean finding suitable places for running in the dark and fitting the time in and around the remainder of the day’s challenges.
So, today’s run was combined with my weekly meet with Sue and she spotted for me whilst completing her own run and brought the mince pies for afterwards.
One point to note, in the dark, the camber took me into the curb where I twisted my ankle. I need to be a little more focussed. The score now on the @fruit_thief paradox is 70 km.

Once again, the day ran away from me and I only just caught the last of the light. Still, it was pleasant enough run only interrupted by passing horses and cars which required a few stops along the way. the process of getting out is a challenge, but once up and running, I am just about able to keep the legs turning over…that said, my form is not pretty. Pace dropped a little today too. The score now on the @fruit_thief paradox is 77 km.

nice work :+1:

This time of year is hard. I’m taking a half day, hoping to start at midday, get 30km in and I’m still lobbing a headtorch in the vest

Nice 13 day tally :+1:

Probably unnecessary to point out that you’ll be doing about the same in last 3

Totally unnecessary…

Day 15 - 15km. Almost timed it right and got an hour or so in before sunset. A beautiful late afternoon’s run with a fabulous sunset. The daylight helped with the pace but the car drivers were just as suicidal. Quads feeling it by the end, but possibly the best run to date. The score on the @fruit_thief paradox is 84 km.
