Sure it will all work out by the 24th. Keep going :muscle:t2:

guess it wouldn’t be a paradox if it made any kind of sense.

Day 16 - 16 km. An off-road day adding a new dimension to the challenge. I think that I appreciated the slower pace and the flat route, but the resultant extra time on my feet may take its toll tomorrow. Out and back to Wistow along the muddy Grand Union tow path with a coffee and chocolate brownie at the turnaround. there’s something about the canal that is vastly cleansed from my last venture along it in 1986 for Sport Aid. Plenty of wildlife to distract and Mrs eJC to set the pace. I might head south on the tow path tomorrow.

The @fruit_thief paradox now stands at 91 km. Whilst sipping our coffee, Mrs eJC calculated the overall distance of the challenge:

The Mrs eJC Pair a Docs: 136 km done, 164 km to go. Half way tomorrow…

XMAS ADVENT CALENDAR RUN Day 17 - 17 km. Headed south to balance out the canals today and caught up with coached athlete Helen Nyul fresh from a season of great racing including a podium overall at the ROC England and the Slateman Triathlon. Great to see Foxton locks from the canal - 37 years after having a few beers there for Sport Aid. Legs are feeling it now with 153 in the bank and 147km to go. All downhill from here !

XMAS ADVENT CALENDAR RUN Day 18 - 18km. Taking up @Poet’s challenge of running up Alport on day 20, I thought i’d see how close i could get on Day 18. A tough climb up to pretty much the top (another 500m or so away) before the buzzer said to turn around. Very breezy on the high ground but otherwise another lovely day to be out. The @fruit_thief paradox is now at 105km and the Mrs eJC Pair a Docs is at 171 km completed with 129 km to go.

Forking hell!!!

Bloody fair play :clap:t3::clap:t3::clap:t3:
That’s impressive. Knowing that climb makes it more so. It’s relentless. Great views though and fairly quiet.

We used to do that as a “segment” before Strava :joy:
Anything under 30mins from the Bank to the Transmitters was good going. Plus, gravel :joy:

XMAS ADVENT CALENDAR RUN DAY 19 - 19km. This is getting pretty uncomfortable now. I stuck to the Amber Valley after yesterday’s more adventurous effort but it took me to the turnaround to get going. Busy through Belper with cars parked on the pavement and Xmas shoppers steering random paths. Another one under the belt, but my neck is now quite sore and calves are feeling the load. The @fruit_thief paradox is now at 112 km and the Mrs eJC Pair a Docs is at 190 km completed with 110 km to go.

XMAS ADVENT CALENDAR RUN DAY 20 - 20 KM. A late start after a long day of working and travelling, but a pretty good effort heading south to Derby and back. I had forgotten how much I enjoy running at night. Quite tough climbing back out of Derby and hit a headwind from about 7 km out and so the last few miles were pretty tough. Right hamstring feeling it late on and left foot is sore. Somehow my calves are hanging on with 5 marathons done and a little over 2 to go. The @fruit_thief paradox is 119km and the Mrs eJC Pair a Docs is at 210 km completed and 90 km to go.

Straight up and down the A6 :boom::boxing_glove:
Some fairly good dippers on that, too.

Nice work.

Didn’t realise what a slog it would be getting out of Derby on tired legs…

It’s all uphill that road from Five Lamps up past Darley park … but then it’s all downhill back to Belper, then it goes up again to the garage just before Cromford.

Used to be my 100 mile TT route - @mw22 did it a few years back, too. Good when you get to Topley Pike on the way back :monorail::dash:

XMAS ADVENT CALENDAR RUNNING DAY 21 - 21km. All the hard days were bound to catch up with me at some stage and they did today. Today was a bit like the Reverse 10 on P Company…just something you have to get through to be able to to go and do it again at the 10 miler. A wild and woolly late afternoon are usually my preferred running conditions, but i struggled today. Picking my way through all the fallen branches, the sodden leaves and, late on, the dazzling car headlights were a challenge today with little energy to lift my knees. My form fell to a shuffle today and i have blown the sole of my racing shoes. I usually do like the Makeney loop though, and when i could lift my gaze, the moon, the dark skies and the squally conditions just about made it worthwhile. I didn’t run the loop today, but opted for an out and back to be protected from the worst of the conditions by the Duffield Bank. To make up the distance, it was back to the A6 which was pretty grim. The @fruit_thief paradox is now 126 km with the Mrs eJC Pair a Docs at 231 km completed and 69 km to go.

XMAS ADVENT CALENDAR RUNNING DAY 22 - 22km. Today was THE day…a very tough run on tired body and mind with just the desire to finish this rather foolish exercise to spur me on. Another day of strong gusts of biting cold wind, rain showers and grey skies made this a harder run than necessary and, for the first time, I was unable to pick up the pace as the run progressed. But, it’s another one under my belt with now just two more to go…the first at Shipley Country park tomorrow if I can get up in time and the second at either Applethwaite or Keswick on Xmas eve. The @fruit_thief paradox is now at 133 km and the Mrs eJC Pair a Docs is at 253 km covered with 47 km to go.

XMAS ADVENT CALENDAR RUNNING DAY 23 - 23km. After yesterday’s travails, the troops rallied and carried me round today. Certainly it’s my slowest ever Park Run (although i’ve only done 13, I think), but the post Park Run pace was quite encouraging. A quick coffee break during which i inadvertently let my watch time out before a solo 7 km to close. The chef took pity on me and cooked up a fat boys and I can certainly recommend the Shipley Park Visitor Centre cafe. So, we are 23 days in with 1 day to go…the @fruit_thief paradox is at 140 km and we are 276 km in with 24 to go!
