All things Turbo

They are binning them off according to this.

They’ve promised 2 more years of firmware updates. But they’re leaving rhe hardware to Wahoo now.

This isn’t long after they had a court battle over the whole thing isn’t it?!

I think it is part of the settlement with Wahoo, so run down existing JetBlack Zwift model inventory and then make the switch to the core instead.

Right so new turbo room is way too noisy. Just spun around on Zwift for two minutes to see what sort of sound I would make - it’s not good. Floor is some sort of click together wood panelling stuff, I did though, use a yoga mat which was always fine at my old house. Floor there was a concrete base with Karndean on top.

So, aside from buying a posh garden room how can I reduce the noise? Anti vibration washing machine mat, two strips of wood with tennis balls in-between, thick gym style mats? Or just an over priced Wahoo mat?

Anyone had much success?

Ear plugs.

Much cheaper.

What about that matting stuff MW has in his garage?

Turn the music up in your headphones?

Always turbo to music !

Bliss !! Or is it disturbing others? If so it must be LOUD!

I dont think its particularly sound absorbing - I think I cheapo mat (or gym flooring) would offer more sound protection. The duramat tiles are quite hard.

If you’re not bothering anyone but yourself then a pair of AirPod Pros gen 2 or other high quality noise cancelling earbuds, or over ear headphones if you’re not sweaty, will sort you out. I’ve a 2017 gen KICKR and it’s not quiet, and nor is my Screwfix mega-fan, but a Wahoo mat and Bose QC headphones mean it’s all very quiet.

Do the rocker platforms bring any muting benefits?

Only useful for you if you can have a permanent set up.

It’s for others, I always listen to music!

The babies room is directly above.

I’ll do some more googling for gym mats etc…

Yeah @Doonhamer, the internet has said two bits of wood with tennis balls (so v similar to a rocker plate) is a drummers trick to lessen vibrations etc

The kitchen floor here would be perfect, they’re big solid tiles. I’ve actually managed to blag a room in this place for myself. So an opportunity to have a bike setup permanently. It’s even got an en-suite shower!

I’ll share a pic once I’ve tidied it a bit

No garage in the new house? I have always turbo’d in one.

The ‘office’ I’ve commandeered was the garage in a former life.

No room to squeeze a set-up in there? It sounds like you’ve already claimed it as your own space; if I was your partner I’d be wondering how many rooms you needed.

This is my room…

Shower is behind that door to the right, utility room off a door unseen to the right and I’m at the entrance door. Waiting for some table legs to attach to that piece of oak which was an off cut of a worktop in our old house.

I think it’s just a bit ‘boomy’ where it’s a little box

I’ve the Lifeline rocker plate from Wiggle. Not sure it makes much difference to noise. Thick rubber horse mats would do the same job from a vibration perspective.

@Adam - Back in 2009, @WhiteNoise on TT1.0 recommended this stuff when we had the builders in.

We used it as an underlay for laminate flooring on first floor & in loft.

It is heavy duty stuff, so it might work for you. :crossed_fingers:

Good luck, Paul.

Is it just that the whole room has hard surfaces to echo. Maybe just add some soft stuff in there to check before trying anything else. Hang a few towels and put one on the floor nearby. If that deadens the noise then work out what you could use that might not look terrible. My new office echoed loads until I filled it with crap
