Is that an anechoic chamber? I used to work in one of those.

It is indeed. In Minnesota. I’d like to experience one. What did you do in one?

Can’t tell you.

Well, I could but…

We wouldn’t hear you anyway.

The garage/softplay jigsaw matting is pretty good for soaking up the vibration

This may be a stupid question but… is it actually noisy outside the room, or does it just seem loud in there because of the hard surfaces?

It’s getting a test tomorrow morning.

If I wake the baby and then the wife I’ll know about it :grimacing:

Nice space! The jigsaw mats you can get from Halfords for cheap are decent. I have them in my garden room for general protection and also had them in my indoor spaces before that. I then have a jet black specific turbo mat on top (mainly for the sweat proofing) - any trainer mat would probably do. That always seemed to do the job in my old flat too.

If it does still make a lot of sound, then one of the top end turbos might be the answer (obviously an expensive ā€œanswerā€ though!). That looks like a flux rather than a Neo? It is impressive how much quieter some of the new top end ones are

@tunster (± @Doka maybe?) how are you finding the zwift hub?

Trying to get my head around cheapish options.
Can find Kickr cores or (many) zwift hubs second hand for £250-300.
Or a refurb core from wahoo for £330 probably more tempting.

Whatever I get I’d need an XDR driver and 12sp SRAM cassette for a further Ā£130 if I want it set up for the TT bike. Don’t know what road bike I’ll get, likely something with 11sp 105 from what I’m finding so far.

Just learning about the zwift cog, after seeing a core+cog listed for Ā£300 while I was in Portsmouth. Might solve some problems in terms of compatibility and saving bike components, but given I don’t (/yet) use zwift it’s a large extra spend for me

ETA: sorry for the random reply Mike!

I’m on a Tacx Neo so can’t help sorry.

I think @gingerbongo has a Zwift Hub. It’s discontinued but currently still supported. But all things being equal I would go for the Kickr.

Cog makes sense if you are planning on using different bikes that run different spd drive trains. But you will be tied to Zwift (at least in the short term) and need some virtual shifter buttons or only ride workouts in erg.

Apart from making an utter horlicks of changing my chain it is fine

As @buzz says they have been discontinued I think?

DC Rainmaker does his usual good job reviewing the Wahoo Kickr Core Cog

I’ve got a Tacx Flux S that I got cheap second hand, only used it a bit and some was on Fulgaz, it seems pretty sturdy but I’m not sure how good it will be if you are doing sudden sprints, probably not what you’ll want from Zwift?

If you are in the NE you are welcome to borrow it for a while or until you get sorted but it currently has Shimano 11 speed.

Thanks. I don’t even have a bike at the moment, just looking at options for both for when I’m able to buy, keeping an eye on resale units. Think I’ll stick to what I know in the Core, probably the refurb unit from wahoo to have some confidence in it.

Zwift trainers seem by far the most common on marketplace for me, wondering if a lot of people starting during the COVID-boom bought in.

I’ve never used zwift so think the cog committing me to it is too much for me, can see how it could be great for other people though.

I think the Zwift trainer only came out about 2 years ago then they had a big legal fight with Wahoo?

Anyway, if you want it short term let me know. I’ve got a Ti bike with a flat rear wheel if that’s any good🤣

I think this is too late for you, Chris? Assuming it also comes to the UK

Potentially very tempting, but I don’t want to be limited to only using zwift by the cog.

I’ve bought a second hand Direto, but need to spend the same again on an xdr freehub and cassette if I want to put the TT on, at the risk of destroying a nice bike on the trainer.
A lot of indecision on what I’m going to do.
Considering bringing road and TT together or just accept the lack of cross compatibility. Including that I’ve paid to ship my roadie back, but now think will almost certainly sell and replace as I want more than 25mm clearance.

It comes with the zwift cog, but you can still put a normal cassette on it
