Mass-start running events seem like the ultimate virus spreader!
out of interest, where’s your race??
I’d have indoor gigs especially standing top of the pile. Also sports stadia (even outside venues) higher than running events.
It’s both proximity and time required to build up an infectious viral load.
Run alongside someone with Covid for the usual 1-2 mins before you naturally part and infection extremely unlikely.
If someone infectious is sat next/behind you singing along to Kylie or bellowing the ref’s a w&@ker for 2 hours you are done, as are most around you.
I’m guessing Cotswold Classic…at least that’s what my mate is doing this weekend.
The running is probably OK as you say. It’s the standing around in the start area - especially at mass events like the big city marathons.
it’ll be interesting to hear the feedback of how it’s run under the BTF Covid guidelines as this will be (if I’m not wrong) the 1st UK event to have the new permit using these.
Interesting as a reference for the 113 event in mid-September too
Challenge have canned Peguera - Majorca already, scheduled for October, but have offered 100% refund or transfer to 2021 by the sound of things.
Not sure how Ironman will think their race will go ahead but will be interesting to see if\when they call it.
Apparently not. Epidemiologists weighed in on the NZ couple who returned with covid and went to a concert with five thousand people attending early this year. They reckoned theyd only put a dozen or so people in their immediate vicinity at risk because people dont move around the venue much once theyre there.
Yes, it’s that event. A lot of Graeme’s communications have made reference to the fact this is the first. And that a lot of eyes, including the DCMS will be on the event.
It’s officially not a race. There will be no “results”. And you can swim as much (1900m), as little (300m), or not at all (straight to bike), as you like. Also, transition times are neutralised and its a DQ if you enter the 2m space in which someone is going theiugh their transition process. I’m. Assuming that’s not the case for just running past then between the racking, but for example if the person next to you is already at their bike, then you need to hold back and let them depart T1 before you approach your own bike
If its not a race, what would you be disqualified from? Seems like a hollow threat to me.
Maybe “we’ll tutt disapprovingly if you break social distancing rules” would be a better threat. We are British, after all
I say! Carruthers is standing awfully close to Pip, don’t you know?
Ghastly.
it may not be a race but BTF rules still apply so no, it’s not a hollow threat.
I had a look at the website yesterday and they do seem to have done a thorough job as far as working under the Covid guidelines are concerned. no event run under the new guidelines is classed as a race and results are purely your own, but at least it gives everyone a chance to get into their own personal race mode. and I suspect the guys at the pointy end will still be racing per se, and not just going through the motions.
hope all goes well - be interested to hear youur feedback. I have some events coming up where I’ll be a TO but not until September.
I was wondering, what if there were no organised events possible in 2021, would any of you do your own thing and SBR 140 miles?
Not for me. Not really done any virtual races this year. I’m optimistic there will be races at some point in 2021 though.
I might be tempted if we resurrected TT Man as it’s not too far away, not so sure I’d do one on my own though
i wouldn’t do a straight IM copy, but i’d deffo do some cool challenges. Bigger versions of my VK tri that i did a few weeks ago, stuff like that.
I think it’s a definitely maybe if things don’t change too much for the better.
