Bike Candy (or not!)

Just had a browse through eBay looking at the used bikes/frames for the first time in ages; people seem to be very optimistic on the value of their high-end TT/Tri bikes & frames. I can understand the premium on road bikes and MTBs, but with almost no events last year and it looking sketchy this year, I can’t help thinking demand will be low in this particular area of the bike market this year to come too.

Not been convinced by these since I first saw them and certainly won’t be experimenting with my 100kg on this one, however fast they reckon it is.

I really like the look of that wheel.

Looks like a steering wheel from a Ford Fiesta

Has anyone got a view on the GebioMized STRIDE TT/Triathlon Saddle? I see there are featured on Matt Bottrill’s site and I’m looking for a replacement for my Fizik Tritone saddle.

Been doing a bit of bike maintenance today

On the stand, my former winter commuter and now Zwift bike. £299 in Halfords sale a few years back. 8 speed Shimano Claris groupset (budget I guess but works fine), upgraded the wheels. For a cheap bike I really like the way it rides.

On the wall a tandem we are looking after for someone… Not been brave enough to actually ride it yet, but maybe when the weather improves :crossed_fingers::ambulance:

(Definitely not claiming this is bike candy, just wanted to post a picture somewhere)

I’ve always liked the idea of a tandem, but it would never work for Mrs W and me - I’m 6ft 1 and she’s 4ft 10, so no chance of getting something that would fit us.

Mrs W is a very nervous descender, so even if we could find a bike that would fit, I reckon we’d do one decent descent and she’d want to stop and get off and walk home

I’ve got that bike stand - Lidl special isn’t it?

My wife and I once attempted to ride a tandem on holiday in Croatia about ten years ago. We made it about 5 metres - very quickly saw the light. We would have ended in a ditch or a massive fight!

There’s loads of adult and kids tandems around! Although dunno if your wife would like the description…

Lol like a tag-along?

That 2 spoke wheel went for over £600 in the end. You could get a decent disc for that which, given it was a rear, would probably be a better option.
No-one on here bought it did they?

It is a lot of money but they’re just under £1400 on Wiggle.

I had a tandom for a while. Wife always thought we went too fast and hated it. Used to go bike camping with the kids on it (one at a time). Load it up, wooden block on the pedals and off we’d go. Disc brakes are a good idea, even had V brakes on it also for the rear rider. Full front and rear racks, the works. Great times.

You had me up until ‘Steel’.

I’ve got a Ribble Reynolds 725 bike which is amazing (the Mavic Krysium Pro’s elevate it, certainly)
Now I’ve tried steel, I’m itching to try titanium

First serious road bike I ever had was a Graham Weigh made from Reynolds 653.

Next I went to an Aluminum Giant OCR, massive upgrade, I never looked back.

Every Steel bike I have tried since, both road and mountain i have been completely disappointed with, especially the mountain frames.

Agree on the titanium thing though, been looking at the PX and Sonder options recently.
