BOOM
Not had a look but I bet Lionel Sanders is mentioned, sorry I mean Saint Lionel of Triathlon.
I have nothing but admiration for Sanders but man alive they love that man.
Yep, the fact that LS beat BM at a previous race and AB biked 12 mins slower than BM (and then blew on the run) proves how shit a biker AB is…
He needs to quit triathlon and get a proper job. I hope he reads those threads and learns something to pick up up his game.
Brilliant
If Saint Lionel had produced that same performance yesterday he’d be lauded from the rooftops for a sensibly paced bike leading to a stellar run to get the W, even down to wisely easing off once in the lead. There’d be a ‘will Lionel win KOna’ thread underway.
But AB is now a shit biker who can’t run…
You can guarantee McCrystal hit that bike like a sledge hammer; home soil, big media presence, no swim to blunt him.
Oh Lord and then the thread continues mansplaining like she isn’t even there.
Cringeworthy.
To be fair it looks as if AB has been building ‘general fitness’ without any real focus and then done a few races at different distances no doubt to see:
- what is he still capable of being competitive at
- what lights the fire again
I’d have stuck my house on him going for Tokyo (with the mixed relay + individual), but after yesterday he’s definitely doing Kona 2019. One takeway from this little spell must be that he won’t be elite competitive unless he trains specifically.
Not sure what the Olympic qualifying cycle is and what he needs to do - but you’d imagine he’ll want to give Kona a decent lash and train specifically from now. Tokyo off then?
Get off the fence Alistair…
He said in his post race interview that he treated the bike like a hard road race .Also said it was the best he had ever felt in the water lol
Corbin’s reply is awesome.
What a bunch of tools.
I get the same impression, but still not confident of making any assessment based on that race.
I thought he was almost watching his words as he described the course
he needs to podium in the Tokyo test event to guarantee a slot. I do believe you need to be top 30 in the ITU rankings for the IOC to allow you in also.
I think the test event gives you points (same amount as the ITU Grand Final), but not a direct slot. The only way to qualify is if you are among the top 26 of the Olympic qualification ranking by the 11th of May 2020.
I think it would be a shame for AB to go to Tokyo, I just don’t see that he has the tools to compete against the current ITU field.
That’s the IOC rules on number of athletes. If we want to take 3 we need three in the top 26 (i thought it was 30 but may have been wrong) or we only get 2 spots. British Tri had automatic criteria which meant top 140 in rankings in May 2020 (a given) and then podiums at Yokohama and Tokyo but Olympic medallists only need one at Tokyo. Basically in the mens only the brownlees are still in with a shot of automatic qualification and if they fail it’s down to the selectors
Oh ok, I didn’t know about the British Tri automatic criteria. Thanks for the clarification.
How close are Britain to not meeting this criteria? The men’s performance for the last year has been pretty inconsistent, must be close to not qualifying 3?
We are in trouble. Believe Alex and JB are the only ones at present. Maybe Bishop is sneaking top 30? I’d need to check
JB is 10th, Yee 20th, TB 26th
You’d think injury permitting Yee and TB should all be able to hold top 30.
