I thought Vanhoenacker was never racing Kona again! I think he just sacked it off today (not sure why perhaps the weather!)
He said in the interview he was too cold
Writing on the wall for BM now I think…just stopped at an aid station for a stretch.
Can AB hold it together?
EDIT: TT start conspired to make the pass for 1st a bit of an anticlimax…go AB!
AB is apparently virtual leader on the road
Less than 3 minutes behind
Through 30.3 kilometers, Alistair Brownlee is the virtual leader of the race. His overall time is 6:50:31, Bryan Mccrystal 6:51:04. There should be an “official” pass soon.
WHEN IS THE PASS???
This has been pretty bloody good to watch
I’d hate to be competing, or even outside supporting, but from the comfort of my garden, it’s very nice.
They think the pass will be at 35km
Yeah, ETA at 35km is the same for both 2:40pm
You mean the tracker isn’t chip time? Surely that’s the minimum they could do?
I’ve just take my first hour of sleep in over 30 hrs after managing an overnight aid station, and registering and setting off a shorter distance.
My brain barely coped with putting the shopping away after my wife returned from Lidl.
I can’t be dealing with this on the road nonsense. Let me know when AB wins and by how much. Did he boss the run?
Calssic…about to get the pass on the road and they switch to the lead woman who is running on her own!! FFS!
@gingerbongo AB in the lead on the road…did he boss the run? Not so much…probably 2:45-50? But not bad in the conditions .
Well, I’m confused. The tracker seems to be out of date with reality, it shows he hasn’t been through 40km yet and they are preparing the finish tape?!?
EDIT: Just over enthusiastic commentating I think.
AB looks like he is not having fun in that last 1500m
That didn’t look like fun at all!!!
Still, great to go sub8 in his first Ironman.
It’s still an Ironman, right?
Could have made the podium a bit more athlete-friendly! Looked like a bit of a struggle for all of them
2:51 run after 4:54 bike, hard to judge much from the conditions and lack of swim, so we’ll still be guessing come Kona time.
So who’s going to tell AB he’s not an ironman
Wonder if he’ll take his Kona slot, as has been mentioned hard to guess how he’ll do in vastly different conditions, but well done today, manned up and got the job done, I’m guessing it was actually a bit warm for him. He’s a pure winner and he’s got a few months if he wants a pop at Kona but wonder if he thinks it might be a year or so early.
Jeff
He grunted he’s taking it whilst still grunting in his dry robe, nearly immediately after the jog
The guys a living legend but I don’t think Lange needs to worry …
This year…
Definitely would seem like he’s going.
“That was one of the reasons I came here. I’ve hopefully got a few years in me and now I’ll be going to Kona this year for very much a bit of a learning experience and see how it goes.”
