Whilst this is a first post here to just advertise a race … not sure if you are part of the organising committee, or just a genuine local/participant promoting the race.
Bled is an absolutely cracking spot. Visited a few years ago, and could definitely see myself racing there one day, and combining with a family holiday. I loved Slovenia.
Probably following the model of that French guy that used to come on here, post endless updates about his race, answer zero questions and contribute nothing to the forum.
Most likely! But I was being kind and giving benefit of the doubt!
I did genuinely love Bled though. Some great lakes and mountains up there. A wicked gorge, easy access to the coast and Ljubljana and Italy and Austria etc etc. Cool location.
Hello. yes, Miro Kregar, race director of Challenge Bled Slovenia and ETU 2020 European championship. I just wanted to tell you this news that we have opened all borders, hotels, airports in Slovenia, we are without quarantine and we hope that we will be able to hold this championship to the satisfaction of all European competitors. I apologize if I have violated your privacy and will not disturb you anymore. But I am happy to answer any question. Apologies again (I don’t know your internal arrangements). Miro
Nothing wrong, as far as i am concerned, with promoting an event as long as you are happy to contribute to questions asked etc. I think what the general community dislike is SPAM type posts with no interaction.
I did that race! Assuming you are talking about Toursnman. It was absolutely cracking.
I was however rather surprised to find I was the only English person there given how much it was all over TT and the otherplace.
Yeah I got nothing against the race that guy had, or Miro’s race here. What got to me with the French guy that he was just using the forum as free advertising. If the RDs that post here spent even just a little time contributing (even to questions about their own bloody race!), it would go a long way to establishing their interest in our community here, rather than just their own race.
So post on here, tell us about your race, everyone is keen to hear about races these days but follow up with contributions that go above the set interest, that’s what I’m saying.
I guess the ‘challenge’ (sorry!) will be for athletes living outside of Slovenia, to travel there. Whilst everything may be improving in SLO, there are still a lot of restrictions elsewhere, and this will inhibit people’s ability to cross borders. We shall see!
I have been to Bled, but personally, prefer nearby Lake Bohinj; much less busy. We stayed there in 2009 after IM Austria (again, sorry for swearing).
Miro, has Challenge instituted their own race/distancing protocol? I expect folks will want to see that, as well as working out how to actually get to SLO. (and let’s not forget, quarantining when arriving back to UK).
Hi. Bike course go through Valley towards Bohinj to Bohinj lake. And then to Pokljuka plateau. So if you prefer Bohinj to stay there…you are just on bike course…
yeah we visited Bohinj and it was lovely. Agree that it is nice and quiet, but i did like the vibe of Bled still.
A friend stayed up in the ski resort during the summer, can’t recall the name of it now and loved it up there.
Had one of the nicest pizzas of my life in Bohinj whist escaping this really sudden, unexpected and massive thurnderstorm as we were strolling around the lake. Good times.
edit - just looked back for the photo album. 2011 !!! WTF
I though it was like 4/5 years ago! haha. Signs of getting old! I
All travel details can be found on the Challenge Bled / athletes / travel website. Regarding quarantine - imagine what the situation was three months ago and what it will be like three months from now. so let’s hope for the best.
Regarding the rules of conduct, distance, etc., we must follow the instructions of the ITU. But things are changing weekly and we hope to lift the restrictions as soon as possible.
and there is the challenge - the ITU instructions are pretty clear, but putting them into practice is another matter altogether. you won’t get the same numbers competing - it’s just not feasible even with a rolling swim start - and no supporters which will keep a lot of age groupers away. plus unknown travel restrictions as previously said which have yet to play out.
I wish you luck and best wishes - Bled is a superb location (was there last October just after the Bled Tri took place).
@MiroKregarCFBled Interesting race. I am in Switzerland, and its only a 7 hour drive, so no worries about flights. I am hoping, to get an Ironman race in the autumn, to qualify for Kona, however, if the timing fits I may come to Bled as the race looks fantastic
