Twice this week I’ve cycled home in moderately heavy rain for it to piss it down 10 mins after I get in.

Do you go clipless or flat pedals? Panniers or rucksack?
SPD MTB pedals/shoes.
Prefer pannier to reduce back sweat, especially in summer. Using rucksack currently on my MTB and it’s not as pleasant.

When I was just cycling to the office I used SPD on my roadie. Now I have to walk from the station I use flat. I bough some Shimano flat pedal shoes which are good as they have a stiffer sole.
I used a rucksack. It is sweaty. I tried panniers but didn’t get on with them.

MTB SPD…i’ve got a pair of those ‘trainer’ style shoes that have a recessed cleat… swap them out at work, but you’d not have to if you didn’t want.
I’m panniers too… rucksack is OK until it gets hot, and then you get saturated… plus you can carry more in panniers.

I can imagine if you have to carry a laptop, a rucksack is the safest way to go though. Less jarring.

MTB SPD shoes all the way.
You can then walk to the shower without knackering your Speedplays/SPD-SL’s.
Backpack for laptop for sure.
I had a pannier zip fail on me (the bottom one that keeps the waterproof cover in) and my laptop slipped out and went bouncing down the towpath.
Luckily, as it was a WindowsXP machine, it survived!

Flat pedals, one of which is folding on the Brompton. I use the bike for tatting around on holiday, errands etc. so want it usable in any shoes.
The Brompton has a dedicated bag that clips on the front, it’s one of it’s best features, takes a second to attach/detach and can be carried like any shoulder bag. Agree re the rucksack comments, best avoided if possible.

I’ve got these pretty nifty platform pedals on one side of the cleats, with the clear on the other.
I can ride that bike in normal shoes, as the pedals sit slightly higher, so there are no reach issues

Yeh, I’ve got those on my MTBs but I just use the pedals the Brompton comes with. The folding one on the left reduces the width when folded which a normal size pedal would negate.

Never had a problem with a laptop in panniers… I just use a top loading one with a sewn in waterproof inner, no zips at all (Altura Orkney). Can’t say the jolting has ever been an issue that i’ve noticed.

I seem to be in the minority here. Just on my normal road bike etc…
Backpack on Mondays/Fridays to take clothes to and from work. Smaller Carradice over the shoulder bag for the essentials/food.
