A slight detour to go along the river and you wouldn’t have to go into hiding and change your identity
Felt like that last night down here. We just walked to the shops and back with the girls and it was well stuffy.
Yeah horrible and muggy all night and it was 20 degrees already at 9.
Im actually done with this summer now.
Imagine how tough Zwifting in the garage is then ![]()
I actually got a quote for some proper air con in there. Obviously more important than any room in the actual house.
Then you just have to be able to afford the electric!
Getting sick of the rucksack for commuting, weighs a ton and hurts my shoulders. Any ideas for alternative load carrying? I usually use my road bike, but no rack mounts. Have an old 26" MTB but again no rack mounts. Suggestions? Cheaper the better. ![]()
Carry less stuff?
I could go commando I suppose, leave shoes at home and wander around in my socks. ![]()
I’m not in the office enough to do a big drop at the start of the week, so need trousers, shirt, pants, shoes, and my laptop. Not much I could ditch.
Can you leave shoes there? Thats what I used to do. Take a lot of space and heavy.
Otherwise you can get panier racks that clamp to the seat post.
Agree, I leave my shoes in the office. I also leave my suits there. Never put the jacket on anyway, so just need the trousers rotating/cleaning.
I also got a smaller laptop which made a huge difference! Thought that was a big ask, but difference in price wasn’t that much so work obliged.
Sell both and get a useful bike? ![]()
I got a tourer years after I shouldve done and it’s a revolution in commuting.
The other alternative you’ve rejected which is leaving everything you need at work.
I commute on an old CX bike with no eyelets/mounts but found a rack which doesn’t need them, it uses the seatpost & has a slightly longer skewer.
I’m not sure about a 26"MTB & whether you have disc brakes/canti will make a difference.
My pannier bag is from Upso. They’re not particularly cheap - my in-laws funded it on my 50th😃 - but I’ve used it every workday for the last 3+yrs.
Like the look if those seat post mounted racks, found a few with extra clamps for seat stays which should take a bit more weight, so I’ll probably take a punt on one of those.
Upso bags look nice, just a little out of my intended price range.
Check the angle before you order as they vary and suit different types of bike. I bought one and it stuck up in the air on my seatpost so had to get another with a shallower clamp.
Well this morning was certainly a contrast to Wednesdays sweat fest.
Even had to deploy a couple of Autumn/spring bits of kit. Was lovely mind to have a bit of freshness.
It’s beginning to look a lot like
wearing more clothes on the commute.
Thunderstorms forecast for the commute home on Friday need to remind myself what I need. Wet roads will mean being covered in crap so will need to shower on arrival I guess. The merino top will probably be soaked so unsuitable to wear during the day too.
Still, at least it’s still warm, the rides themselves should still be good.
Put my waterproof jacket on this morning, wasn’t raining but a lot of standing water after storms last night.
Sweating like a pig by the time I got here, not sure what’s worse.
It’s the perennial question. I always end up ditching the idea of jackets, but I’ve heard the super expensive ones are impressively breathable. I have been amazed at Goretex breathability but not used it for cycling or running.
When I commuted I went for maintaining warmth and sod if I get wet. Im a heavy sweater so jacket or no jacket I was getting wet. Merino base layers for the win. Carry spare in a canoe sack in my bag for the way home
