Yep - I was back in spring/autumn kit yesterday. The wind was so bad though.
Also sick of the ground being wet.
That was grim.
Soaked to the bone.
Locked out of LastPass when I arrived. Stood waiting for someone else to unlock the floor I work on, as I cannot remember the PIN ![]()
Forgot my towel.
Best ride I’ve had for weeks if not months. Roads almost dry, no wind, drizzle that was forecast didn’t turn up.
Supposed to be nice later too…. so probably get soaked then!
Absolutely bucketing it down.
Could barely see at times.
Cars forcing me into puddles.
Shoes soaked.
Side wind.
That’s where you went wrong
“A towel, [The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy] says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have. Partly it has great practical value. You can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapors; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a miniraft down the slow heavy River Moth; wet it for use in hand-to-hand-combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (such a mind-boggingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can’t see it, it can’t see you); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough.”
Last commute of the year today and it was glorious!
Hardly any traffic and virtually no other cyclists.
The office shuts at 12:00 today, so I think the ride home will be less quiet and stress-free

First commute of the year today and the roads were empty and the first 13 lights were all green

How many sets of lights do you go through?
21 in less than 6km
![]()
Only two reds in total today, but I usually hit at least half of them in red

That’s a lot. One every 285m. Have you considered walking?
I had 24 iirc on a 50km commute across south west London back in the day.
TBH by the time you factor in the time spent locking up the bike and showering and changing there isn’t that much time difference between cycling and walking

Went down on my 5km commute to the train station this morning. Went over a bridge, after which there is a right turn and I make the mistake of touching the brakes. All very slow speed, shock me up a bit and took it very easy the rest if the way, walking any downhill. Had another close call later in the journey when I turned sharply to avoid something which triggered a skid that I saved.
Couple of tiny holes in my jacket, but most annoying thing was finding my rail pass missing when I got to the station. Must have forgotten to zip up my pocket. Work pass still there, would have much preferred that falling out!
Have managed to blag my way to Reading, and just need to try and do the same to get back, as their T&C say they are complete c&&nts about it officially and you need to buy valid tickets until you get it back (or replaced). Means I’ll probably travel off peak just in case.
In some good news, got a FB message from the a chap from the running club/parkrun who works at a hotel close to where it happened to say it’d been handed in.
The one over Tewkesbury way? That bridge and the north side are terrible in any ice, and todays ice is really, really bad, my run - which I’m about to leave on is not looking promising.
Yeah, the one which was closed for a while, meaning I still had the majority of my commute left.
If I get the train tomorrow, I think it’ll be a run commute, felt much safer on my feet.
Noticeably lighter on my 16:45 commute home this evening.

Noticeably heavier on my commute this evening.
Or is this not the weigh-in thread.
Green for the first 15 lights this morning and only 3 red lights in total

Bollocks today.
Got soaked coming in and will get soaked going home
I got in before the rain came, but it looks like I’ll be getting wet on the way home
