Just fit them on the morning Jeff, like you would with your Garmin computer etc. I need to remember to put the standby time on my pedals to 2h on the morning too. Although the Assioma battery life is way over the 15h they advertise. I reckon at least double.

It’s funny what you get paranoid about. I now take a spare piece of velcro for my Torhans bottle in case someone thinks to sabotage my race by nicking that overnight. I have had the aero straw cover sheath thing nicked from Hever Castle between entering T2 and picking up my bike. And someone I know had their Garmin mount nicked too.

Never thought about etap batteries. With them, I probably would charge overnight and take them down on the morning of the race (for a pre-racking race - obvs not applicable to the 113). Personally, I don’t worry about di2 batteries. It’s survived some pretty poor weather. Although one of the main reasons I upgraded the battery was so I would be able to check charge % remotely which is a nice reassurance.

Definitely intending to track this! It should be good fun!

Good shout on the Torhans straw cover; I have a spare I might take to Hamburg just in case. They’re both evostick’d on at the moment though!

My only real opportunity will be if Poet blows on the run; I expect him to be ahead of me out of T1 & 2.

Stranger things have happened. I shall await the press truck to make my move if it does.

I am going to head over for some “live” tracking on the run :grinning:

Will keep this thread updated if I spot any of you flagging .

That is an absolutely incredible moment.
I was listening to Macca on IMtalk this morning, man, I miss him on the radio and pre-race talking.

Youtube live stream?! :joy:

Nobody should choose to watch my running style

(Where that Blackpool HM photo “coo-ey”?)

You have to watch us old guys; we’re crafty feckers.

Getting some proper sandbagging in. My calf is still very achy, so it might end up being a swim/bike brick. I might even resort to calf guards. :slightly_frowning_face:

I think @Jorgan got his in above, too

Poet, I need you to make this one really hard so Jorgan can hardly train for let’s say 5 weeks  any fatigue you can make him have going in to Hamburg would be cushty!

Right, who’s next in the M45’s

Jeff

…I’ve never gone DEEP. But I’ve been listening to and reading stuff about it, I’ve actually booked Monday off work for this one :open_mouth:
The tank is getting EMPTIED :face_vomiting:

Like ‘The Man’ I will be letting him go, and whether he comes back to me is down to him. Hamburg is way more important, I only have £150 invested in this

It doesn’t matter. I will race my race, and we will see. (Wolfgang Dittrich Kona '89)

Wave 1
Jorgan #24 (course PB would be nice at my age - although flatter bike now)
Poet #16 Target: Operation HalfIronWar (i will overbike and die on the run, but he still won’t catch my lard arse)
Buzz ???

Wave 4
Johnny5 #523

Wave 5
Wheezy #635 Target 4:54:59 (might as well split the difference)
Andy G #527 Target sub5?

full 88km, for BBS;

I’ll be expecting a fast time in the smack down this weekend…

Poet needs to be careful he doesn’t go too fast and win  Presuming he doesn’t get carded on lap 2 for sling-shotting.

I’m going to be nowhere near the front of this race.
Just had a look back through my “training” over the past five years…

2014 - 79 hours (no swim)
2015 - 10 hours (no swim, no bike)
2016 - 78 hours (no swim)
2017 - 40 hours (no swim, no bike)
2018 - 282 hours (got back on my bike late May Bank holiday, first swim in five years on 31st May)
2019 - 204 hours (so far)

Still got some way to go…

I’ve already done a BBS, I’m 80kg today (put a bit of weight on with working away!), bike is 12kg fully kitted up, then water-bars-helmet-shoes weight about 2kg, so 94kg all in.
Intending to ride it at 84% FTP, given that weight, previous training sessions and the weather on the day.
BBS is telling me that’s about 2:23:39 - which would be nothing short of outstanding (I’m expecting about 2:32)

Swim will be about 32 mins, then run under 1:31, plus transitions.

More seriously, will be disappointed if I don’t go sub5 (pacing will have gone seriously wrong, probably on the bike). Will be satisfied if I see a time beginning 4:4x, amazed if it’s any quicker (or the course is short).
