Cotswold Classic / 113

:rofl::rofl::rofl:
That will happen when you go off course.

Yep agreed. And even from 10/12m there’s still a clear benefit, especially into that headwind. Which is why I also take my time with a pinch of salt.

@Poet yeah I have a single sided crank pm - 4iiii one.

I’ve not looked at the results but I deffo saw some proper draft trains all aboarding!

I trained at 225W for the 113, but my PM battery died, so I just did it on feel, but I was utterly dialled into that 225W, so I can’t have been far off.

If you did 238W on a road bike, then with a TT bike, you’d be rapid :+1:t3:

But probably better on more hills to rolling terrain :+1:t3:

Well done, focus on the positives.
It’s an impressive bike speed for the distance you covered.

Ah yes. @Poet walking around transition trying to scrounge a AA battery before the start

I now have two in my race bag.

I’ll have to have a look but that doesn’t sound right. I think maybe Strava has auto paused or something?

I though AP was more like 225 which was my target. I’ll look on the laptop later when I analyse my data. Annoyingly my training Peaks subscription ran out 3 weeks before the race.

just checked @Poet - NP of 215 on Strava and 217 on TP. Not sure where you saw 238!

AP was 211 or 209 on the two platforms.

So i’ve looked it up and i spent 23 mins spent riding extra distance. FFS! Plus the extra in the legs, running out of fuel/hydration etc.

How you feeling Pete?

I’m sore AF

Just stat bashing

First 1:15 277w NP- felt like it. Sweating like a beatch

Latter half power dropped, not helped by the dismount and 100m jog past the unfortunate accident.

Yeah, finally feel like a human being again after about 39 hours awake with 12 mins ‘proper’ sleep! haha.

Just in analysis and deconstruct mode now, i’ll write a classic Fletcher long winded post later! haha. Annoyingly my TP premium has expired, so i can’t crunch the data as well as i want to. But on the whole a similar story. Too hard on lap 1 and faded in lap 2. As above, 23 mins of extra riding, plus the slower last few kms in as a result not helping! haha

Huge frickin DOMS today which is ridiculous.

My biggest reflection is that dehydration is the biggest culprit of the day.

I weighed in at under 69.5km this morning. Haven’t been under 70 in years!

It will absolutely be dehydration. I’ve had this drummed into me by coach Phil from post race analysis on the last two 70.3’s. It’s difficult to carry enough fluid, and the aid stations on the bike are virtually impossible to use if you’re trying to keep speed and momentum going.

By the time the run starts it’s too late.

Yeah i was walking a tightrope anyway with my strategy. Add in a 90 min wait for the swim just bnobbing about in a wetsuit and over 25 mins of additional riding. Even when i started to guess it half way through the run, i was only taking on a few dribbles of water at the aid station. Would explain the state of my legs as well, as 4.10 pace for me shouldn’t be any major hardship. You learn and move on though eh!

Everything hurts this morning and finding more injuries. As per Graemes email, I best give him a call…

So they started everyone at once on the bike? Or was it waves?

It was ‘waves’

Basically everyone grabbed their bikes and funneled out of transition and off they went.

Well done all who raced.

Great run GB, the rest will come.

Let’s hope the injured athlete is ok.

Yep there are also some bad Doms in the Sparky household this morning. Congratulations to all of you; @gingerbongo I’m sorry that it didn’t work out on the day. Sometimes that’s the way it goes, you dust yourself off and go again

So a combination of work and a long running injury meant that I was very unprepared for the race. But its a race and I was really looking forward to it. Sleep is never brilliant the night before a race but managed some between 11 and 4.20. Left hotel and arrived at car park to a huge hold up. Basically the field was full and they were desperately trying to fit us all in. I was now a little panicky as my 25 mins in transition was now 10 mins. But I shouldn’t have worried

The canning of the swim was a real shame as it was the one event I had managed to get some reasonable training for but really there was no option. So then it was out on the bike. I was racked furthest away from the exit point so I was one of the last to leave but even so I was riding just 15mins after the first starter. So there were a lot of riders out on the course. As mentioned above there was a guy who had a very bad crash. We had to stop at one point for the ambulance. It did not look great and was very sobering. There was also a lady on the side of the road also being attended to by a crew in an ambulance. I hope that both are ok

My ride was uneventful and I rode strictly to HR. I came in with 2:43 and an AV HR of 115. (Av Power 144W, NP 150W, IF .0749). Last year I did 2:49 so was very happy with this. I love the Giant Propel, very rapid; well for me

So onto the run and I stuck with the carbon plated shoes. It was muddy and tbh I had forgotten how much of it was off road. Anyway the shoes were fine and I paced myself on the first two laps to 8 mins miles. I felt strong at the end (Maurten is a great product) so the last miles were 7.41, 7.22, 7.14, 6.47. Maybe not the best pacing but it got me a 1:40 when I was expecting 1:43.

A good day for me, will post some more reflections later
