ok cool, thanks.
No more new purchases are going to happen for a while, so i’ll have to hope the saddle fixes the issue!

Stem looks a bit short for that, but that will depend on the handling.
GAAH! MY EYES!
+1
And accordingly it might be a higher headset rather than a lower seat. Try the seat first.
It does but then I had to remind myself that Ive only been looking at tri bike set ups (my first reaction was christ hes sitting so far back!) for years now, so Im not sure its as relevant.
Even so, another reason to consider raising the headset.
Yeah i pushed myself back initially as I felt like I was to far over the bars. Thought maybe I’d bought a bike too small, but triple checked the Canyon website and this size came out every time.
Last long ride I did, I got really numb hands. Now I think about it, and have made some changes I was clearly leaning all my weight into them, on the hoods from too high a point (and with straight arms).
Felt more comfy initially today with the lower saddle. But turbo may be different to outside, so I’ll have to see how handling differs. The drop has changed how I grip the bars though. Can’t. Quite work out what yet, but something needs to be tweaked there.
Also new position definitely strayed recruiting different muscles. Calves and shins were feeling it, I guess from the foot position changing (heel not dropping as much so toes more pointed). Guess time will fix or break that.
Thanks for the initial advice guys. I’ll give it a few weeks and see how it goes.
You’d all best look out when I actually get it sorted if I see you at a race!
I need to get my ego torn to shreds too. Ill post up a recent vid as soon as I can find a bodice and bra that fits.
Yeah i wasn’t going to go get bib shorted up! Normal shorts and tshirt were enough!
If I was to get on my TT bike I would create a nice aerofoil where tummy wraps around the top tube and my love handles are keeping the air clean as it goes much wider than my behind the saddle bottles.
Haha yes, my body proportions are currently based on a truncated Kamm foil. That air just skips around the bike. Reckon I could tow a trailer with no drag reduction!
Edit - I’m replying to something from June. Forget what I said!
Time to open myself up to scrutiny
These pics are already on another thread but I thought for feedback as regards my position they should really be here.
I’ve got nothing else to do at the moment so I’ve been considering whether I can get a better position over winter. I rode a decent time in Barcelona but looking at the pics of me there I think I could get a better position and I know my helmet isn’t doing me any favours.
The question in my mind is whether getting a better position will require a bigger frame I’m currently on a 54. The bars are the all in one Tririg Alpha X so it’s not possible to just get a longer stem.
Also apologies for the screen grabs both in terms of image quality and also ethics. I’ll be buying these pics at the end of the year when they send the discount code
I’m certainly no expert but if you could hold your head in a turtle position to get the helmet tail down low on your back so it’s a continuation of the top of your back, it would look a lot better. Your helmet tail is the highest point. If you can’t hold your head so low, I’d say try an aero road helmet to avoid the tail sticking up. I get my head low and into position and then look down so the tail goes up, and then I reach up and push the tail down, then I bring my head slowly back into position and I feel the tail of the helmet on my back, that’s how I know the helmet is flush with my back.
#2 for not an expert, and sort the helmet!
But as ever, seat maybe a smidge too high.
You look quite cramped up. Your back is very arched and I think 2 cm more on frame might mean you stretching back out more. But I could be wrong…your arm/back angle is >90 degrees but think it’s cos all your scrunching is going thru your back…stretching out might see your head more over the bars and therefore able to bring head down level too.
Honestly though, I don’t know what I’m talking about!
Answer therefore is probably a bike fit. When I had mine they confirmed at least that my bike (58cm P3) fitted my 6’3” frame well, even if my flexibility limited my position, so at least there’s that peace of mind to be had. Be cheaper to get a bike fit than buy a new bike. Although more expensive if they tell you you’ve got the wrong size
On a side note Barcelona in those photos appears to be New Brighton promenade on the Wirral. Same weather by the looks of it too!! Who knew?
As others have commented, the head position is pretty obvious.
However, the picture above shows your foot positoon at the bottom of the stroke. I am not sure if the issue is technique, crank length or saddle height, or a combination. If you heel is lower, you will maintain power through the bottom of the stroke for longer, I suspect that there may be a dead spot on each rotation. You can see this on with some power meters, or on a Wattbike in the gym
To my unprofessional eye, your frame looks too big, seat post is low and you have a pretty stretched out position, although back is pretty flat. A smaller frame, with lower pads, which are set closer to your body would result in arms being in a more vertical position (taking weight off your back).
Head/helmet/turtle obvs…
Regarding comments on seat height/frame size.I wouldn’t say it looks too big. What length are the cranks? You could maybe go shorter, and keep the seat height where it is. Practice keeping your head lower too, relax your shoulders. I can get low on a frame that looks about the same size on me; so don’t go rushing out to the shops!
Don’t change more than one metric on the frame at once.
Raising the angle of the extensions has helped me to lower my head; I also use 170 cranks. My elbows also look a little higher above the top-tube than Mr ME; so I must be employing some magic A ‘half’ mantis will help you get that bonce out of the wind if you can get used to comfortably shrugging the shoulders.
@Jorgan Great advice about not changing more than one item at a time. I would probably look at crank length first as well.
Looking at your position, shoulders are at a perfect angle, and you don’t look stretched out.
I just looked at @Mr-me pictures again, it may be that the water mark is distracting, however, the 2nd and 3rd picture look pretty good position (not withstanding head) the first and 4th look stretched out, but now think that this may be more to do with camera angle
TBH as a starter I haven’t recently looked at any research but last time I did it generally showed that the best cyclists applied more power in shorter duration of the pedal stroke, from 2o’clock to 4o’clock with less powerful cyclists applying less power for longer. When I get time I will have a look for references ad anything that says otherwise. (Google is just returning articles and Wattbike pieces not research so will improve my search).
Would be really interested to see that research too.
