Critique my position/bike/thighs

:point_up_2:

See earlier response. I know, I’ve not finished messing about yet. But I haven’t had time to spend on it as yet.

Any thoughts from those in the know?

I’ve previously used Best Bike Fit, which is very similar, to good effect, and that’s just a fiver. Takes a bit of effort, and you need to play around a bit to get a good fit, but it helped me a lot. The app you’ve linked looks a bit slicker, but I ended up learning quite a lot from BBF by having to read around the subject and play with the implications of things like a longer stem on hip angles, not just arm positions and comfort.

I also used this. Great value and I’d guess it’d get you 95% of the way there!

Right then. Apparently i’m unhappy with the level of self flagellation, so i feel it necessary to open myself up once again. This will be undoubtedly led by Mr @Poet , and there’ll be a minor chance that something useful may come out of the ā€˜discussion’! :see_no_evil:

  1. If you’re of a nervous disposition, then i’d steer clear of the link below. Yes i’m just in a pair of c. 2010 Orca tri shorts, and no i wasn’t going to walk all the way up to the house to find a jersey after my session. Sorry about that.
  2. Yes i know my belly is hanging over my tri shorts!
  3. Yes i know the shed is an absolute tip!
  4. Yes i know the camera angles are terrible, but there’s limited space and I was already self conscious enough and rushing before Mrs GB came down to see why i was still in the shed and discovers me filiming myself riding a turbo in just a pair of shorts!!!

Front on camera view and (sort of) side on view, the best i could manage in the few mins i had spare.

In the front view i tried to swap between a more comfy position and the shrugged, turtle manoeuvre - or at least what i think you guys mean when you say that - to try to reduce the frontal area. That really tenses and engages the shoulders and i’m guessing would make me very tired and stuff after a while.

Here goes nothing … (help)

You have to click the link at the top of the still

Slam that stem

I think you’re looking alright there actually

Pink or Green helmet for race day?

Deffo green - it’s more aero and has llamas on it.

That was/is going to be my next trial. I’m just worried about c0cking it up as i’m a flippin klutz!

Looks pretty flat, stem is easy even I can do it and I’m a mechanical spaz.

I’m assuming your just turning it over ?

2:30 split all day that.

I think it’s already on the low side of the stem. Assume i’ll have to take the spacers out and slide it down the ā€˜chimney’ ala @Adam

We can’t see how high the saddle is and tell you to put it lower.

(ST joke.).

Looks broadly aero to me, the question for you to answer is whether it is comfortable.

The tummy wasn’t a problem but the wisps of armpit hair have scarred me for life :see_no_evil:

They’re almost dreads

Looks reasonable for a road bike. Have you got access to a Tri/TT saddle to try out? It might help you get more comfortable in aero.

I see, yep even that bit is easy

Just make sure steerer is straight when you tighten the bolts/ top cap back up.

I’ve just realised it’s a video!

Even in a 70.3 it’s a long time in the bars on a flat course, comfort is king !!

Were you ok with his chest rug?

@jeffb you’ve got competition in the IT department!!!

In secret places, we don’t fight fair.

Love the tunes :+1:t3:

Get some MCR blasting out, stick on some AFI and you’ve a party going on (from 2006, but hey!)

F**k me i should’ve fetched the jersey!

I’ll shave myself like Duncan Goodhew for race day! :man_bald:

It doesn’t seem to be uncomfortable at the mo, but i’m yet to do any real long rides yet. For an hour or so on Zwift, yeah fine. But i do wriggle around on my saddle a bit. Unfortunately that’s the only one i have (only have one mate with a TT saddle, so could ask him for a loan for a couple of weeks).

I’ve a few longer test runs planned in on my new plateau i found a couple of weeks ago that i want to try on a couple of early Sunday mornings.

I was surprised how quickly my shoulders/elbows started aching after riding my newish position on the road for the first time on Sunday.

I’ve spent loads of time in position on the turbo too.

I know I was riding ā€˜balls out’ but just shows how much conditioning you need. I wouldn’t have fancied much more dual carriageway in that position. 6 or so hours is not filling me with joy

Me too … fairly clear we’re all of the same kind of era! I was talking to some of my school friends the other day about some rock/metal songs released in 2001, and the fact a lot of them are still my current music.

Yeah, I’m a little nervous about that. I need to get back into longer outdoor rides on the TT, rather than leaving it bolted to the turbo trainer. I’ve suddenly realised I’m only 8 weeks from a potential 180k :flushed:
