Fair enough

So, who’s Father Time?

There is a guy doing the double Arch to Arc. Brutal Claire is supporting him
He’s halfway through his first swim(Eng, Fra, Eng). I think he is then getting the tunnel back to Calais to do the double bike and then back to Dover to do the double run. Arch to Arc Triathlon (enduroman.com)

Last big training weekend…

50km Run Walk over the final section of the run course…

7 hour (21k) Dover swim

4 hour (12k) Dover swim

Total weekly training time 29 hours…

time for the taper…

EDIT: in fact, make that a 6 hour swim and a 31 hour week…

Hope the taper goes well. By the time I got to my taper I was absolutely ready to go. I couldn’t do any more and was in need of cutting back. Good luck to him. Beginning of September is definitely the best window so hopefully the weather actually plays ball

Yes…there’s a balance between being sufficiently trained and overcooked…and it’s a very thin line…

we did much of the cycling and a fair bit of the running early so that we could focus the time and energy on the swimming in these last few months. However, it got a bit panicky as the water temp remained low and we couldn’t get the long swims done in skins. This meant some early long swims were cut short and ramping up the volume late put pressure on the shoulders. Only in the last two or three weeks have we got the the necessary volume in and even then, we would always want more.

Typically, the conditions yesterday - at Dover at least - were excellent. Our slot is perfect for the tides, but the long range forecast is predicting winds…

What are the planning timings. How much for run + rest before the swim?

If all goes well - perfect conditions:

Depart Swim Time - 30 hours…

18 - 20 hour run
10 -12 hour T1

14 - 15 hour swim

T2 time minimal, depending on fatigue…but combined T2 and bike 24 - 25 hours…

That’s pretty much the timings I had - I didn’t want any more eggs in one basket if there were any problems on the run so having a buffer for T1 is good.

Fingers crossed on the weather.
