Garmin questions

Polar Vantage V is well over £400, so another 935 it is. Keeps my Platinum Bonus nicely topped up

How the hell is a person with normal sized hands supposed to get these screws back in?! And yes, all I have that will fit is a mini screwdriver from a Christmas cracker that’s about 8 years old!

I’m gonna launch this through a window in a min. What are these, screws for ants?! They need to be at least 3 times bigger.

If you’ve got a magnet, stroke it along the side of the screwdriver a few times (always the same direction), then it will pick up the screws.

Interesting … i’ll try to remember that. But with a bit of perseverance i managed to complete my task! yey!!!

100% this.

Or buy some decent screwdrivers. What sort of a ‘man’ are you :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Any ideas why wrist HR is totally freaked out by rowing. I forgot my chest strap twice and both times HR has been utter nonsense. I know HR should be pretty steady around the 130 mark but get this. Strap is tight so I don’t think it’s moving.

Anyone used this yet?

I’ve seen it on mine but never gone into it. Love that it has HAHO and HALO options. Just what we all need.

I’d imagine it’s because of the tension in your forearms from gripping the rowing machine handle (does it have a proper name?!). That’s going to mess up blood circulation I would have thought. In a similar way to when you rock climb.

Hey!

I have a Garmin 935, and it has NEVER recorded HR correctly. If that’s the Indoor Rowing function or the generic Gym one…

Apparently some third party apps work better, but I just can’t be bothered to investigate.

Started using an Edge for bike workouts and noticed it uses default FTP 200.
Maybe I’m missing something as only had a quick play with it, but seems really odd that new Garmin devices don’t just automatically collect your existing user settings, eg FTP/HR zones when you sync by BT? Looks like have to connect to computer or enter manually?

Optical HR on the Garmins is very haphazard; probably the most reliable for running. But if you’re gripping something (rowing, biking etc) then it’s mince. I use it for my Circuits and it’s a bit pants for that too.

I have read that if you have it in ‘pre exercise’ mode before you press start, for 10 mins or so, it often settles down for running and accuracy is improved.

But it does. You have a new Edge 530 right? You can only have one FTP set in Garmin connect, and then it will sync that across all of your devices automatically.

Have you actually setup your FTP to be whatever it is under devices - user settings - power zones?

Hadn’t set up anything on the edge, but had done a basic sync to import a workout, and after doing first ride it recognised a new FTP of ~200W. Have manually changed on GC so will resync tonight and hopefully that’ll be it.

Ah right. I’ve turned off the “detect FTP” functionality, as I want to be in control of changes.

You just need to change it in the Garmin connect mobile app for one device (make sure you hit return after inputting the number you want, and then pressing the back arrow to save it) and then it will sync across all your devices.

You can see on this video that it has amended my Edge 530 numbers, even though its “offline”. The next time I switch it on, it’ll update the FTP settings on that device.

EDIT - the video may still be uploading??

Yep fairly certain I’ve done it on GC, just not got device with me now. Just a little qwerk that wasn’t good from word go.

took me a while to figure out the hitting enter, and the back arrow part. I frequently used to try and change it and it wouldnt get saved because I didn’t do one of those things.

And if you update on the device, but not on GCM, then GCM will just override whatever you manually entered on the device.
