Garmin questions

My activity tracker data still hasn’t backfilled. I’ve written it off now

Question regarding live segments on a Fenix 5.

Is there a way to have multiple live segments showing as there are some segments I run that are within other segments?

Or when a segment starts that I am not bothered about I can cancel it so it then picks up the one I really want?

I realise I can un-star segments but it is a bit of a faff if I can cancel on the fly.

I did an absolute smash fest of 100’s - for me - last night, but I didn’t record it properly. Time was recorded, but not distance :slightly_frowning_face:.

My eyesight isn’t the greatest when swimming as I wear contacts  & have to squint a bit to read the numbers, but what did I do wrong? Could I have left my watch on the “Drill” setting?

If you use the lap button it considers alternate laps to be swimming and rest. If you get them out of sync then it won’t record any distance for your swims as it considers them rest.
E.g. If you got in, pressed start and swam for 400m as a warm up then pressed lap to start your first 100m it would consider that 100m as rest and when you pressed lap at the end it would consider that a swim and so on. You would need to press lap at the end of the 400m then again to start the 100m with the few seconds in between being rest.
I’ve never done it for a whole session but lost part of them before due to that.

@JaRok2300 That would make sense. Thanks.

Replaced my watch strap. Thought it was going to be a good excuse to upgrade, especially as clubmate is currently selling one, but the trusty 910 lives on.

Looks like Garmin released a new HR strap yesterday as well, HRM Pro. Has dual Bluetooth\ANT+ compatibility, and can store HR stats to download later, a bit like the swim one.

Not cheap though, something like $130US

Does look like it does HRV, and all the running metrics.

Review on DCR

Got something weird happening with my Connect account. Everything ok until last weekend and since then, my rides and runs show up if I press the day on the calendar and all the data for that activity is there but what I don’t see is the green bar on that day, so it looks like Ive done nothing.

Synched ok, it just doesn’t show the bar?

Why does my 935 keep telling me I’ve set ‘best efforts’ (PBs) when clearly they are not?

I get that whenever I connect it to a new/additional device. It seems to forget any previous records.

you also need to “accept” them.

All,

935, 2.5 years old… I’ve put it through its paces and it’s on the decline.

I’ve heard that a 955 is muted. Any idea if this will become a reality?

I am hoping the 745 is the first release of the new line…

How is it declining? mine is a similar age.

Altitude gauge (I’m sure there is a proper name for it) went at the start of the year, perhaps it was a sign of things to come.

That aside unable to calculate temperature, no problems there, but the battery is severely declining.

You know when you’ve had a car for a few years, and you just know it’s all going to go to shit at some point soon…???

Yeah, that.

I am somewhat familiar with that concept, yes.

My fenix 5 hasn’t remotely started declining (3.5 years), no justification at all to replace, the 935 is the same device but in the plastic case?

Yeah, no issues with mine at all, except the Lap Pace drifts wildly.

Are the barometer sensor holes just bunged up with sweat, suncream, skin, etc ?

I was getting some dodgy readings on my 3yr old 935 and cured it by squirting some hot soapy water in the holes and flushed the gunk out. Seems fine now.

The battery is beginning to not last as long as it used to, so may replace it before next May (Ultra Scotland 100) with a 945/955.

Its been reported that 955, 955LTE and Fenix 6 Sport strings have appeared in the latest Android app apk by someone who has unpacked it, so ithey may appear soon.

last time my altimeter went, the temperature sensing went at the same time. There is a diagnostic mode you can run to check if it’s a hardware problem rather than sensor port blocked:
To access Test Mode:

  1. Power off device
  2. Hold the Down key
  3. Press and release power button (while still holding the Down key) to put in test mode
  4. Press the Back key 8 times

Yeah, it’s the Barometer on the high-end Garmins that goes (which also gives temps). I think it’s swimming in treated pools that kills it; not sure how effective rinsing it after every swim is, but can’t do any harm!

You guys who’ve had no issues, do you swim much? (I’m guessing not). I’m expecting my second 935 not to have issues at this rate
