Reading the reviews the Epix seems to be the top choice because of the screen.
I didnt even know there was an Epix. I’ve just had a quick read. It looks very much aimed at indoor type athletes that want a decent screen. It has worse battery life that the others, no solar charging and less screen protection. Doesnt really scream outdoor athlete.
Ridiculous price as well
I was watching a review from The Run Testers and they all wore both at the same time I think. One guy running in the woods said that the lack pf reflection and better contrast on the Epix swung it for him when looking at mapping.
He said if you had a 7 and had never seen the Epix, you wouldn’t care but once you see the Epix screen, it’s really hard to accept anything less.
Good contrast mapping on ultras would be a factor for me as I’m shit at navigation but not sure if it would be that much of a factor at that much of a price!
The battery life on the Epix isn’t terrible, it’s not as good by a decent margin, compared to the 7.
“Wear Epix, be Epic”
Riiight. A case of the watch wearing the man then.
Entry level Fenix, paper map and compass, £400 left over to waste on coke and hookers.
Im ooout!
That all sounds great and some people do that but being cold, wet dark and windy and trying to read a map? nah.
I’m not saying the Epix is worth it at all but a paper map would be my back up to the back up.
I was only being half serious. Would like to see this Epix in the flesh, but It would have to be really fucking “Epix” to impress me, and even then its a crazy price to pay for a sports watch.
Do indoor athletes need a GPS watch
For the gainz
There are some ultras where a paper map is mandatory kit. UTMB I think?
It’s probably why I like Endure24. Even I can’t get lost on 7km multiple loop course.
Yeah I think the big trail ones where you could be off on you’re own in remote country for a while mandate map and compass and being able to use it in case the electronic gizmos go wrong.
So is it so you can watch netflix iplayer, rather than having to listen to shitty podcasts then?
Don’t know. I’m just relaying what he said, I don’t speak for him but I’m sure you could leave a comment on their channel.
Managed to connect the watch up to my old desktop and run Garmin Express - sorted. And some maps updated.
…And it’s not synced through my phone again today.
Updated my calendar and synced the watch to get the right work out on, launched the workout and off I went.
Why is it syncing everything, apparently, except runs?
Is it because 7 has come out and they want you to buy that?!
I think I had a problem with mine where the watch ran out of battery during an activity and it tried to make the final save. It ended up with a corrupt file that I removed. It still didn’t quite resolve my issue. I think in the end I deleted all historic activites and let the watch start again.
Have you asked in the garmin forums?
Garmin forums posts and their manuals make me angry, which is why I post here!
If they have something on how to do something, the one thing it will absolutely not convey is how to do that thing.
And now I’m even more confused.
The activity had synced through Garmin Connect to Strava. But not appearing on my phone’s GC.
Tried Garmin Connect on my iPad and the activity was showing. But the watch is not paired to the iPad…
Clicked News Feed on my phone, it showed the activity. Went back to My Day…and now it’s appeared there
So it would seem that somehow everything syncs phone<>watch, except runs. Runs sync through the unpaired iPad.
Did my usual strength session at the gym. Recorded it as such on Garmin with my chest strap HRM on. I normally burn around 400cals during the session.
However, today the session came in at 200cals for the same workout. HR average was only out by 2bpm as was max HR compared to the last few sessions. Strava gave me the same training load for both sessions, so why has my calories burnt dropped by 50%?
Runs are syncing now without problem.
However, since Tuesday, sleeps are not
