Thanks the the replies. It looks like I was going off some very old info and Garmin seem to have sorted stuff out on the more recent watches. I think I’ll just invest in a screen protector and use the new watch. It’ll be a lot more convenient than remember to charge up the 920 and swapping over to it (and having to use a separate HRM).
Can’t get my HRM Dual working
Changed the battery, nada.
Tried a reset? flip the battery over and hold it in there for 10s, then flip the right way and see if that helps.
Edit: it didn’t for me, but worth a shot. ![]()
I seem to remember it normally immediately connects to my watch while I’m still putting the screws back in, but there’s nothing.
Checked the manual. Positive side up. Tried two batteries.
Bit of muck on the popper, otherwise looks ok.
Some of the garmins get a new ANT ID when you reset, so you’d need to repair.

After changing everything several times, I finally take the sticker off the back of the second battery.

Just done my first track session with the Garmin and have noticed a quirk in Strava. Saved it as a workout, but Strava seems to be using moving time rather than elapsed so the rests look really funky e.g. random times like 5s, then 9s, rather than a pretty constant 40s.
Doing this with my previous watch Coros, it always showed the appropriate rest time. Looking in Garmin Connect, that is displaying the full elapsed time as I would expect.I recorded it exactly the same way as I did with the old Coros watch, hitting lap button and the start & end of each rep.
I’ve checked watch settings and auto pause is off for track run & run, and as I said above it looks fine in Gamin Connect.
Googling suggest the only fix is to set it as a race in Strava, but it obviously wasn’t a race, it was a workout where I spent a fair bit of time not moving and recovering deliberately.
While it’s not a huge deal it’s kind of good to see the accurate rest time, as the session is done as a group so the advertised 40s rest could be quite different for you as an individual depending upon a) your finishing position in the group and b) the coach doing the timing. So for some sessions the advertised 40s rest has been nearer 50s.
Theres some Garmin deals on Sportpursuit at the moment, including 935 with HRMs for £310 if anyone is looking. Also a couple of Fenix 6 deals.
A few days ago I said to myself, “Joe you can’t afford to replace any kit, so look after it.”
Shoe falls apart yesterday.
I tear the strap off my watch in the pool today.
Can any strap be used or does it have to be Garmin?
I replaced the original Garmin one with a Chinese made clone from Amazon. Its lasted longer than the Garmin one
Same. I just get them for about a tenner on Amazon. Can’t tell the difference.
Be careful with the quick release on some of the cheaper ones, I had one on my 935 that would tend to release when taking wetsuit or arm warmers off. Replaced that with a cheap one with no quick release.
Looking at the picture has it just come unclipped via the quick release ?
If so it should just clip back on
eBay, should be about a fiver.
The plastic has cracked, so it always slips out now.
I suppose I could try glue, but I could also just put on an old nato strap.

Bastard. Forgot I’d tried the nato straps before, of course they cover the optical sensors.
Could wear the HRM all day until replacements arrive I suppose.

Watch face sinking in the pool will stick with me….I’ve ripped both pins out today. Same fricking thing!
Straps ok ![]()

Garmin are out of stock for Watch pins! ![]()
I can wait until March (!) or get my own…
If anyone else loses pins on a 6S Pro the spec is:
Svc, Spring Bar, 2.3mm OD, 20mm Installed Span
I think this is a sign to buy a 7 surely. ![]()
<says the guy who just bought a 7 quid eBay strap for his ancient 920xt
>
edit: nato strap looks smart BTW
