That’s really cool - any pics or instructions?
I followed this video
Instead of replacing the glue with a cut to fit sticky pad, I used silicone bath sealant to stick the screen back on
Nice
I’ve got the jet lag advisor for my trip, generally some obvious suggestions but gives you an idea of what time your body thinks it is.
It’s saying I should go to bed now, just after 8pm here but I’ve been up nearly 25 hours
don’t think I slept on the plane but had my eyes shut and did have about an hour nap earlier on.
It currently says I I feel like 3am and I’m 6.5 hours out of sync
So, I’m off to bed and fruity is probably just getting up ![]()
Had a lie in today Jeff and missed you by an hour. It’s freaky that there can be 11 hours of time difference between 2 people on the same planet, can’t get my head around it and am beginning to suspect the Earth may not even be flat ![]()
See that @Doonhamer is having an early one ![]()
Ha, yeah and the fact that Buenos Airies is a long way from home but only 4 hours difference ![]()
It gets weirder!
I’ve now got 2 friends who are a year older, but not where I am ![]()
Do I wish them happy birthday or not ![]()

Rather annoyingly the altimeter on my 255 has suddenly gone bonkers, claiming I had 64,000m of climbs on my entirely flat 45min ride around the bike track over lunch.
It did it on my last run too and neither calibrating or giving it a wash seems to be working. Not a big deal I guess but stupid. It’s fine and correct when it pops up on Strava.
The holes for the barometer often get clogged up, which leads to some strange results, they can be gently cleaned with warm (not hot !) soapy water.
They have also been known to fail after too much exposure to chlorinated water.
Strava often ignores the elevation data from the watch and uses the GPS coordinates to look up the elevation from a map.
Garmin have released the Forerunner 970 barely two years after the 965 which I’ve got! Looks like a few improvements like ECG, better HR and skin temperature
also has a torch feature.
It has some kind of triathlon coaching but not sure how good it will be and wouldn’t be surprised if that isn’t a subscription service before long.
Also includes a $150 price rise so doubt I’ll be rushing to upgrade.
Meanwhile in the last week mine has gone bonkers with the floor count, I’m walking around on the flat and it notifies me I’ve done another 10 flights of stairs
my guess is a buggy software update rather than something like the accelerometer going so will see if it improves in a week or so.
The stair count uses the barometer for altitude - check the holes are not blocked
Thanks, hadn’t realised it had one but apparently it’s internal, I’ve tried calibrating it via GPS so will see if that improves things. I was at altitude quite a bit in the last fortnight and it could have upset things.
I’m liking the 570, will wait and see if I can use a code next week
My Garmin Edge 1040 Solar has developed a few issues recently.
- When I download routes from Garmin Connect App on my phone, it can take several attempts to Synchronise, also the elevation calculation is crazy. If I synchronise by plugging it into my laptop it is fine
- When the navigation becomes complex, for example in a big city, the navigation freezes, the only way to unfreeze is to stop and save the ride, turn off and turn on the unit. This happened to me twice this week, once in Karlsruhe and next time in Koblenz
- Random turn off - the unit randomly shuts down, normally after restart the ride is still fine, but I have lost one ride
I have pinged Garmin support, but they are not helpful
I’ve also got this problem on my non solar 1040. wifi is fine but for some reason then it doesn’t sync with Strava. Was a Cow in Lanza when I’d planned a ride & everyone had the route but me as it just wouldn’t sync.
Expect a hard reset is in order but sucks to rearrange fields again & turn off all the crap.
What really knobs me off though is they’ve added a back ground to the rest timer on my Fenix 7 which means you can’t see it with your goggles on. Turn up the brightness & it’s worse as the background goes up with it. For the Epix it’s a red back ground so I’m guessing this was something to do with it but it’s so carp I was expecting a speedy reverse but had multiple updates since & still there.
I tried a hard reset, also made sure that Software and Maps are all up to date. Its a real PITA.
Also, I hate the colors on Garmins Navigation screen - route is in pink, roads are brown, however, in some light conditions I really struggle with the contrast.
New HRM too, what a bargain at £149.99 ![]()
but it does have a light on it though ![]()
My admittedly much older 530 has thrown a few wobblies recently, freezing mid ride, turning itself off. It seems to be related to the fact the storage is full, says it can’t load a new route. I delete old ones, which it seems can only be done manually on the device itself, but then it sincs and loads them all back up again.
Might be in the market to replace my 935, which has noticeably worse battery life these days. But that cost jump is painful, will wait until the autumn, see if the real price is below rrp by then, but maybe 965 or even 265 would be enough.
