Garmin questions

The one leahnp is looking at might be an option as I’m not sure you’ll really need an ECG or torch? I think another new feature was mic/speaker to accept calls and voice commands, probably to compete with Apple but not something I’m interested in.

The 965 might get big reductions before long.

It seems the USD pricing is the one that’s taken a hit. GBP pricing is a moderate increase. I commented this on DCRs initial post…

USD pricing on launch:
965 $599
970 $749

GBP pricing on launch
965 £599
970 £629

So relatively, we’re getting a pretty good deal.

AUD pricing is apparently also massively hit with a large increase, so doesn’t seem to be tariff driven and focused on the US market like I initially hypothesised.

Maybe in terms of rises. And I know taxation is different over there but £599 is $791.

You’re forgetting taxes.
US prices are always listed without any equivalent taxes whereas UK and EU prices are always inclusive of VAT.

Compare to EUR then.
965 was €649
970 is €749

+15% (better than the +25% in USD) but our +5% is by far the “best”.*

FX rates have not moved meaningfully over that time. The same is true to USD.

*i won’t be getting one, it’s way too expensive for what it is, but just pointing out facts. Happy with the 945 given how I’m not running and barely swimming.

970 is only £30 more than the 965 when launched, so it’s not a massive jump. Now that the 965 is down to £500 I would be buying that if I was buying now as I think most of the new features in the 970 are novelties or just to make it look like there’s been technological advances.

If my watch dies I can’t afford to replace it so a moot point perhaps but I’m not sure I need it anymore anyway. I think I’ve learned all I’m going to learn from it and it’s been really helpful but feel like that box is ticked.

My Fenix 6 has been temperamental when charging for a while. I’ve ordered a new charger and I’m hoping the issue is there and not in the socket in the watch

My lap button on the 255 is sticky so will bite the bullet and order the 965 or the 570 when it is released tomorrow

Checked the discount via British Triathlon and the FR965 is now £400 direct from Garmin so I’m pulling the trigger today

That’s a good deal, it’s a great watch, especially if your eyesight is like mine!

I saw the 955 with £100s off (probably not really but, that was the advert) yesterday, £299 I think. Ive lost track off each generation tbh, so no idea if it was an okay deal.

Im running :man_running:  my 745 into the ground.

Are you sure its not the lead? I’ve had two warranty replacement charging leads and they have both gone faulty. Out of warranty now and I refuse to buy one, so just wiggle it until it works and wedge the watch it a position where it will charge.

Yeah, that’s what I’m hoping.

Up to now I’ve been able to wiggle the lead until it starts charging and then wedge it into position, but yesterday I couldn’t find a position where it stayed charging.

The watch is 2.5 years old, so presumably out of warranty?

A new cable was about £5 from the Bezos Bazaar, so I thought it was worth a punt :man_shrugging:

It does seem to be the cable rather than the watch. Mine does the same. Occasionally the watch needs a little extra clean too.

DCRainmaker posted about these a little while ago and they’re very handy for having with you. I didn’t buy these exact ones but many options available when searching against “usb c garmin adapter”

Thats a good idea as the lead breaks because its got F all strain relief.

Not going to be a problem with those.

Oh god I clicked on the link, now Amazon is going to keep pestering me to buy them.

I have these, handy to have with a small ty-wrap on your phone USB-C cable for dual purpose.

I saw that via my employee discount portal too. Tempting. The fact I’ve just done a 2k run as my first in months probably suggests I don’t need to upgrade my watch though!

That said, the annoying screen scratch I’m stuck with after clashing into someone on a practice swim before Marbella 70.3 in October, would be nice to get rid of.

I ordered the watch yesterday and UPS delivered the watch at lunch time today so just over 24hrs which is amazing considering it was free postage. The oled screen is nice and now the updates are pushing through from the recent releases the watch is a bargain.

Looks like Garmin have developed a sense of humour :joy:

What would I want to do something like that for :joy:
