Gravel Riding Chit Chat

Not to Rebecca’s unless you’re one of her followers, but there is a gpx file knocking about which I’ve put in my Strava routes.

I’ll see if I can find a link to the gpx.

Ah, I was looking for a Strava segment of the full route, just to see who’s done it :white_check_mark:

Did you ever do that 3-day trip? For some reason I had it in my mind you were doing Dirty Driver too. Could be all in my head of course.

No. To both.

I’d not realised Dirty Reiver was the Borders and CBA to drive that far, I’d thought it was closer to Darlington :face_with_peeking_eye:

For the trip; health issues put me off doing it, as I wasn’t fit enough. So I did the Yorkshire Three Peaks, Snowdon and some DIY with my time off :person_shrugging:t3:

There’s the 3 Peaks CX race too isn’t there; sounds pretty nails with the bike restrictions they have iirc.

one for you @Jorgan ??

Mmm, nice. Alas I’m playing soldiers that weekend. But I need to start monitoring the event calendars again. I actually started looking at local Triathlons for next year. Of course I should probably also start thinking about swimming regularly. Not very IMJ I know.

I did it in 2011 & once was enough for me although I did learn a lot.

I think the bike restrictions occurred shortly after this to stop people using mountain bikes or mountain bikes with drops.

Am I right in thinking that you have done it @jeffb ?

Oohh I sense a showdown! We’ve got a good few southern members in the Devon/Bristol/Cots sort of area on here.

Let me know if you find anything interesting. I’m already starting to wonder what to do next year!

Yes, might have been 2009 for me? Realised very soon that proper CX like that didn’t suit me :joy:

Fairly sure mountain bikes and other flat bar bikes were banned when I did it but could be wrong.

I do remember riding the field after the first climb and my front wheel got stuck in a hole that was the perfect fit, went over handlebars and sat on the ground seeing little stars like a cartoon does :joy:

slightly more than gravel……:flushed::see_no_evil:

@Poet

Yeah definitely something a miss there. Some misalignment going on I presume (not from you)? I’m guessing you need a Hambini type product, if that is what token is?

I presume you mean my bottom…bracket. :joy: I can get some. What are you after? Mine is of the threaded variety.

Yeah, it’s a press fit (mine)
With that wavy spacer, so there’s a gap where crap can get in.

Yeah - Token are similar to Hambini.

If yours is the standard 24mm BSA threaded version, then that’s why it’s lasted 11,000km.
They’re sweet. Last bloody ages and they’re generally only £20-£30 when you do finally need a new one.

I’ve said elsewhere, my BMC is press fit and has done 11,000km with one BB and it’s still smooth.
I bought my TT bike second hand and have replaced the BB, also press fit. But I’ve done about 3,000km on that and it’s super silky smooth still.

Photo - none drive side close up…hang on

@Sowler - see the orange thing? That’s the crank arm from the drive side. So I reckon all the crap spills down that :person_shrugging:t3:

Ended up going for a steel gravel bike. A kona rove DL from my LBS. Just need to sort out my cycle2work voucher out next week.

Local (Hampshire) free, off-road, DIY gravel/enduro event is live, if anyone’s interested. Open until New Year. Easiest way to access is via TestDuro club on Strava Romsey, England, United Kingdom Club | TestDuro on Strava but if you just want to check out the route it’s Salisbury to Southampton, 60 km, on Komoot TestDuro2023A | gravel ride | Komoot

A 7min clip from the Gravel Worlds. This is what I was saying about it being carnage @fruit_thief . And those bits are all on the flat! Gralloch wasn’t that bad at all.

Nasty

Reminds me a bit of that MTB race down from the top of Les Deux Alpes, just carnage with people falling off everywhere

It doesn’t look too “carnage” to me. Proper racing with the big boys. It’s like old school MTB when there weren’t many technical sections - which is pretty much what gravel racing is now.

What a shit fucking course where you can just short cut it…
