@APM - OSB used to be the local sprint organisers, with Pacesetter doing the Oly’s and Middle’s. My first tri was Woodhall Spa Sprint by OSB, followed by Mansfield and Lincoln. Back in 2007!!! So more like a return to their roots.
Yep, in for Copenhagen and I’d describe it more plodding than plugging
Huge risk signing up for next year, especially with what is a stretch goal for me, but I’m going to experiment with a different approach and see where it takes me. Looking forward to it!
mine was at Florida so equally as flat as Copenhagen. Key for me was the bike - plenty of training on the flat (Romney Marsh when we lived in Sussex) to get used to being on the tribars for so long as that kills your back, arms and shoulders.
In all seriousness I’d never push anyone to sign up as it’s a big time and financial commitment. But the offer is there should you want to take advantage.
I’m heading out to Hamburg in just over 3 weeks and we’ve just had the email through from mdot today that the bike course is indeed updated for 2024. The out and back section where the major accident happened last year is out, with the entire eastern section now consisting of a 55km loop. Still flat as a fart.
At least that awful windy and soul destroying out & back is gone. I will never know why they couldn’t make the bike accurate in 2019 when there was that section
One other detail that was snuck in amongst the pre-race e-mail shots - the new nutrition sponsor (Precision) means that there will be no carb-based sports drinks available at any of the aid stations. Only low-carb electrolyte drink or plain water. Because… “…decoupling your fueling and hydration can be beneficial during your endurance races…”. Yeah righto, that’s the reason.
I don’t know about anyone else, but this is somewhat of a game-changer for someone like me who prefers to avoid solid food, gets most of my calories/carbs from drinks and can’t really stomach (a high volume of) gels. Excellent.
Yeah for some people it’s going to be very beneficial, for others not.
For me (and you) it will mean needing to go to super concentrated carb drinks that I take small sips from and balance with on course hydration plus occasional bar (probably two over the first half of the bike)
I’d never really relied on gatorade/infinit though. Was easier with a hydration bladder down the top, but now will mean going back to carrying 500-600g carb spread over 4x700ml starter bottles I reckon.
