Austria Triathlon!

Someone should put a TT helmet on this lass and a kangaroo in the background and repost to Facebook. Sadly I’ve no Paintshop on this laptop.

I think that’s it. When I started doing tris in the late 90s full membership was £18 and a day licence was £6, so if you were a regular triathlete becoming a member was an easy decision. Over the years the gap grew wider and full membership lost its value proposition.

For 2024 events the Race Pass costs are £8 for age 25+ and £2 for <25 - 2025 prices are not yet confirmed but I think the idea was that they have this as a step towards the intended £12/£6. Full details are now on the BT website (sorry, I can’t post links…)

Hello stranger!

Yes, when I came back to the UK, I think I only ever got BTF membership 1-2 seasons out of 10; just not worth it if you’re only racing 3-4 times a year in the UK. At least that’s how I perceived it. I never joined the DTU when I was in Germany, as you had to be a member of a Club; I couldn’t see any Individual options.

You can now as you are an original and not one of @Poet’s bot mates

I’m sure I posted upthread but this is essentially what they did in Oz. You can’t effectively become a member of a tri club without being a member of TA. It backfired and club membership tanked.

I’m not sure how they got around the third line forcing law either but I think it stuck.

When I ran the club we had a link and members got £10 off (they probably still do), but the fee was like £35 a year. If you raced regularly , like most did, it was worth doing, and add the insurance. As it was on the website most people just did it. Last year it was abut £100 for me (coaches pay more now as well) and I literally only do it now for coach insurance, which I have now found out I’m covered under UK Coaching for far cheaper (and it covers my S&C and swim coaching also). I don’t have an answer though but enforcing it and putting it up to ridiculous prices has probably lost my fee and likely a number of others so wouldnt work. Annual fee needs to be made worthwhile for people doing 3+ races a year as @ianmcl says.

That’s the revised fee, I believe. The original increase was to £12, but the feedback was scathing…

They did a ‘Truss’.

Seeing some events sticking to the “£6 off if you are a BTF member” line, which is now non-compliant. Was thinking of signing up for one, but I’m not sure they’ll get a permit for it?

Also, seeing some events sending customers off to the BTF website to buy a Race Pass independently - I’m not sure how many are going to do that, so there’s potential for long queues at registration for participants who need to buy one online on race day morning

no doubt the BTF will pick them up on this

That’s what worries me tbh. It’s not just a case of organisers flicking a switch. They may find it easier to get insurance elsewhere

maybe so but without the BTF permit anyone racing will be reliant on whatever insurances the EO has put in place (assuming they have) and your BTF membership (if you have one) will not cover you for any accidents.
