Entered. Anyone else in this year?

Still considering it\trying to convince myself the water won’t be too cold!

But also looking at the Geordieman duathlon the week before and Sundowner the week after.

Afraid unless they drop a xxxt load of lava in the lake to warm in up it will still be fresh

I think it’s full or closed but as I’ve got Belgrade the week after I’m not going to risk getting injured on the run as I know I’ll try and batter the descent

Thinking of going over though if the weather is good, do the bike and head up to Red Tarn and down.

Did that over a decade ago - Remember took an age to warm up on bike after swim lol - bybwhch time most had behind the big climb

Starts with a fairly decent climb up to the A66, I’d forgotten how big that one was thinking it was all about Kirkstone Pass at the end.

yeah it catches u out if the winds blowing too

That first climb is a leg snapper if you’re still cold, as soon as you turn off the lakeside road it must be about 1k heading over 10%?

And continues on.

Still a couple of entries left and open until tomorrow!

I need to say no :joy:

Did wonder if the sportive option would attract you into an easier day out.

He’ll be walking up the hill with his fell running ability.

Probably do the bike on a shopping bike as well :joy:

I think they were suggesting £200

Is it just me this year, or anyone lurking to say hello to? Think there was only Jeff tempted and he’s Sundowner instead.

Decent return to training at one point in the summer after ~18 months of minimal, strung 6-8 weeks together and saw improvements. Have done zero for 2 weeks with illness but feeling a bit better and packed the bags today to give this a go. Nowhere even vaguely close to the fitness I was in Aus, but not sure where I’ll be compared to when I did Helvellyn 2020, feel I might be somewhat close.

50kph gusts for Sunday but not a horrendously wet forecast, maybe some drizzle.

I hadn’t seen the forecast but 2020 wasn’t great, very cold and wet. I was half thinking of coming over but could do with trying to get in the lake.

Good luck.

Well this is right up there as hardest thing I’ve done. Spent the day writing cheques my body couldn’t cash. Summary: Quality event for <£100, up there with best I’ve done. Huge respect to organisers but letting it go ahead

Surprisingly good swim, 19 flat, Jonny Brownlee about 45s ahead, then me and a Norwegian pro out together with two more close behind. 14C water felt fine, cold feet but warm enough day they warmed up on bike, trisuit was fine despite the wind and rain.

Decent bike, PB on most segments but knew I was overbiking trying to hang on to someone who’d overtaken me just before the A66, but then not dropped me so tried to stick with him as the ~20km back to Ambleside was into a tough headwind. Needing to dig in on every rise but I’d catch him back on flat/downs. He was riding deep wheels and could see him getting blown in the wind and coming off the TT bars.

Struggle climb was exactly that. 2 minutes slower up, really grinding on the 24% section but safely back down the other side despite needing to overtake some cars. I rode it down on Saturday and it was terrifying in 50kph gusts on those narrow corners - swapped my front wheel for a 40mm front (disc cover on a 80mm rear) which think helped on Sunday.

Hung on for 5th into T2, but lack of training came home to pay on the run. Both quads cramping within 1.5km, and a long trudge up the mountain, stupidly without picking up any fluids from T2 and only 1 gel. Biggest goal once I’d passed point of turning back was not being blown off the edge and making it back. Slipped from 5th to 14th, 3 of which were in the last km but nothing I could do. Looks like upgraded to 13th on results and 1st in AG (2 older but mostly young uns) as guess JB didn’t cross finish line to win his own event.

Quality stuff mate - especially off a much smaller build than you would usually entertain!

Apparently I finished the race on Sunday :man_shrugging:t2::joy:

fair play m8ie. I was doing the Gt Wear Run  and the weather was OK but noticed it looked like you were going to get it in the West! When did it start raining? Very surprised they let you go right up t’hill tbh.
