What show am I watching

Hydrogen has been the future for some time. I had an interview for an ops manager at a potential hydrogen fuel cell factory about 20 years ago. It never happened.

I suspect it will remain the future for a long time too.

Hydrogen is a great idea. Combustion waste is just pure water. Problems are despite it being the most abundant element in the universe it likes to stick to others and takes huge amounts of energy to split it.

Its also very volatile and likes to go bang easily. In some cases though its actually less dangerous than petrol. It needs much higher oxygen levels to explode and because its so light any leaks disperse easily, whereas petrol vaopur floats aorund on the ground looking for something to set it off.

The idea has been to use large solar banks in the desert to product the energy for hydrogen by electrolysis.
The problem is that you need to replace the entire infrastructure to use it. Look how long itā€™s taking to create car charging infrastructure ā€¦ and thereā€™s already electricity everywhere.

Rolling it our for cars would be complex, using it in homes looks impossible.

Suspect aviation might be the easiest target, would double the cost of flying according to the calculations Iā€™ve looked at.

Theres an eco fuel being developed and produced in Punta Arenas in Chile with Porsche. It works in a normal petrol engine with no mods and is carbon neutral. I believe Porsche ran it in their 24hr GT1 cars. Only problem is it was over 100USD per litre of gallon or something to produce.

Yes lot of work going in to synthetic fuels. FIA are looking at for F1 and the aviation industry as well.

Same with MotoGP. All race classes will be 100% sustainable (synthetic) fuels from 2027 - theyā€™re currently using 40% sustainable fuels.

I cant answer that, this is the unanswerable question thread.

Hydrogen blend boilers (20%) could happen in the next 5 years just not 100% ones

Trials already going with the hydrogen powered by electrolysis powered by waste/effluent water and solar. May know of a current pilot site. :zipper_mouth_face:

Cake Box. Been meaning to post something about this for a while and today I came across this article The UK cake shop that bucked trends to make Ā£37,000,000 last year | Metro News

There is a concession stand in my local supermarket (AsdaS). Iā€™m a very regular visitor, especially in the last 6 months while unemployed, and I can only recall ever seeing someone buying something from it twice, no exaggeration.

Iā€™ve no idea what they do with all the cakes, as they donā€™t appear to sell them! Never see them reduced. Never a rush to get a bargain at the end of the day, unlike the bakery section at Asda itself where crowds gather round the reduced goods.

I personally think the cakes look disgusting, like those creamy tasteless cheap ones you get at unlimited buffets, where the dessert section is almost always a huge disappointment.

I canā€™t see how they are turning a profit.
