Growing interest in this race.
The stigma is slowly dying as more multisporters have a do.
Don’t want to clog up racing training threads so all World Series of fitness racing here.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
Watching all the folks at the gym training for this is making me Hy-curious
There’s a row in it
But it takes between 3:40- 5:15 ish mins
( not three hours!)
It’s very popular, lots of people start training for it
Realise they simply can’t move a 152 kg sled 50 ms then give up, really slim runners really struggle and just don’t get the time back no matter how fast they are.
so it helps to not be a slim runner - I tick both those boxes and in a couple of weeks, be even more so
Same as tri … ish
Look at the podiums
Different shapes and sizes
Some quite muscular / some quite slim ( all efficient runners)
Fit 95 kg guys push / pull the sled unbroken ( rare) but really struggle with burpee jumps and are usually …. Not the best runners.
That said with 350 ish in some age groups that’s some ask now.
Sept/ oct for you ?
I’ve zero interest in doing one. Indoor endurance events baffle me. But I’d love to go spectate one if it comes to Aberdeen. I imagine it’s quite the spectacle.
Glasgow is in March
There are “ planned “ events every year
Manchester x2
London x 2 ( different venues)
Glasgow
Dublin
Birmingham
I’m not aware of Edinburgh hosting an event to date but could have missed this.
They are very spectator friendly being able to follow your friend or family about for the whole race
The music is loud
But a very friendly atmosphere
They do keep promising another site but nothing confirmed yet
pity there is no swimming in it that would sort out the meatheads
They would just find different drugs !
I’m a crap swimmer but I’m much better at it than wall balls.
Currently doing intervals once a week with a good runner
10%? Faster than me very slim and no meat head
He’d love to do a tri but he can’t swim
We have all met these people over the years it’s a mobile event so a swimming pool would be a major headache too
also those creatine filled junkies would sink in a pool
Off to the gym shortly - my PT managed to get a sport in the world champs for next year with a roll down. He also did a doubles last weekend with another one of the PT’s in France where they did 59 mins. As you can imagine some of the stuff I do with him are very hyrox based but I do enjoy it ( as are the functional training classes I do at the gym too).
I was hoping for the same at Manchester but no email arrived …! Booo!
Sub hour doubles is “ standard “ now were it was a “ thing “ once, the sport is moving at great speed performance wise and there is no way that many people can be taking peds
It’s just impossible that stuff like this ( hyrox) wouldn’t help your running / tri/ endurance times
From fatigued running to general strength ( especially the legs) some say swimming … not sure about that
Enjoy your pt! If that’s possible ?
.
Just watching Joe skipper on for his second hyrox on you tube
A torrid 1:30 ish effort on debut ( pro weights)
I wonder how he will do doing the open race and hopefully he will have done some training for it this time ?!
65 mins for the ex IMUK winner
John sowler has gone 64? I think
A 26 min improvement ( but easier race )
88th overall ( I’m guessing 2000 + in the race )
19 th in his age group
Died on the wall balls, I can literally feel his pain
PT always hard but as a middle age woman who is learning about strength training its been brilliant . Managed to push 80kg on the sledge today twice!
Sled is just building
Watched one lady do 5 x pushes (50ms) build from bare sled to comp weight (102 kg?) in 2/3 months.
Adding 5-10 kg every so often
Well done
Stick at it
I’ve got nothing against Hyrox as an event and I’m sure 20 years ago when I was still rowing I’d have been all over it, but I’d be amazed if it’s still as popular as it is now in 5 years time
I keep hearing about “celebrities” and influencers who are doing it and I think lots of people are doing it now as the latest fitness fad to post about in their socials, but I reckon that crowd will move on to something else in a couple of years time.
I don’t see Hyrox as a “sport” in its own right and the gym and fitness scene is very cyclical
