“When we get Olympic accreditation “
And “it’s much harder than CrossFit/ running triathlon” etc etc are just cringe
It’s very spectator friendly there is no doubt about that
If your loved one / friend came to watch you do a sprint tri
They’d watch the swim if they could ormskirk you can /
Nantwich which you can’t really
See you 1-3 times in the bike and once per lap running ( if the run is Laps?)
They would see you 16-24 times during the 8 k run and can watch every station from feet away
It’s also very inclusive Ive seen more black, Asian, east European and even trans athletes in three races than I’ve seen in three decades plus of tri/ cycling/ endurance stuff.
The fact you can race with your wife, mate son daughter etc in doubles is also a big plus ( you HAVE to stay together ) and share the stations.
That’s the good bit.
It is VERY Insta with people who were shifting on … stopping for flex posing pictures during a race ?!? That’s just weird
Some People are genuinely more concerned with there photo package than the actual race
It also is becoming quite money based with coaches, affiliated gyms, trainers kit etc.
There is an element of ped use but I don’t think it’s as rife as some would suggest but it’s 100.% more than most sports I’d say.
Watching the ladies 70.3 now, that’s pure sport and for me hyrox will never surpass this, who knows in 20 years time it could be an Olympic sport or if we are both still here in 5 years time you might be saying “ remember that hyrox thingy that suddenly died off “
Only time will tell I guess.
I’ve enjoyed it so far.
If Crossfit can stick around as long as it has I don’t see why Hyrox won’t. Its FAR more accessible and inclusive than Crossfit is. Even more so now with the adaptive category.
I did 1:05 in the Open cat this time last year and 1:18 Pro at the World Champs. I have got a ticket for Manchester Pro cat in a couple of weeks and have been working alot on my strength so I am hoping for a slightly better showing than 1:18 but we shall see how that goes as my running isn’t quite where it was a year ago
Managed hour bike today !
Back nearly mended
Watched a lad training for Manchester PRO weights !
Same as you, he’s younger than you I think ?!
Km run station x 8.
Went and spoke to him afterwards, not the best runner ever ( he was averaging 4:20- 4:35 kms on t mill ) but very strong
Wall balls paticulary impressive 33 x 3 about 15? Secs rest, that 9 kg ball is no joke.
I would just question whether it will still be selling out as quickly as it is now when the celebrities and influencers have moved on to something else
Manchester at the end of the month is
“ impossible “ to get into.
Probably the worst one yet
Even people who been head judges/ hyrox ambassadors previously can’t get a place.
It’s crazy.
Lots of races in Europe don’t even sell out at all
The UK ones are very popular now.
During my 2:15 static bike yesterday I watched ( bike is directly facing open 15 x 12 m area ) 35-40 people doing there bit.
I’d say 25% were either competing or training for a hyrox type event.
I’d say a further 20-25% did exercises that are used in hyrox, lunges, jumps, burpees, timed ski ergs etc but these were probably just keeping fit.
In a gym of 6.5 k members there are more
“ patches “ these are the badges you get when you finish
People sew them ( or Velcro ) on there bags ( they have complete melt downs when they lose them! Mine are in a draw somewere ?!) than triathlon t shirts / relevant tri kit.
It’s only been mainstream for 4-5 years so quite an achievement.
As John points out it’s very accessible
You need a gym to train in … ideally / a pair of trainers… and your off.
It also has quite a good “ image “ with the yoof it seems.
This isn’t the hyrox is Better than tri chat because it isn’t
Yes… it’s posey and cringy at times but it is very inclusive and it’s nice to see people keeping fit and enjoying themselves.
I’m quite friendly with most people who race now, honestly never seen anyone outside of a gang of pikies topless in there
Even in the hot weather… the whole topless thing becomes “normal “ at races but not in the gym.
Watching a sprint tri this year one lady commented that they were “ all swimming with clothes on?!?” ( tri suits) yet we think nothing of it.
I see quite a lot of men training at the outdoor gym on the park and running without tops on even at this time of year.
There’s no way that they can claim it’s because they’re too hot when the temperature is in low single figures . I’m sure there’s some social media photos being taken at some point in the workout
Never seen anyone ever running with no top on apart from an actual event IIRC?! Not even outside.
It is literally freezing here and has been for the last 48? Hours…
You’d have to be a 100% poser to run topless in this !
