Hyrox

It is something I’d like to aim for the second half of the year, as that is when the London event is apparently, but I’m getting the sense that getting a place is as hard as the VLM

I had a contact ( PT) that has the “ code “
He has left and can’t get it anymore
I am cultivating another contact ( bottle of wine bribe ) that may be able to get the “ code” without it … there were 70k applicants for 10 k places at Birmingham
It’s crazy popular
The excell was probably the best venue I’ve been too.

It’s a good race if you can do wall balls

I’ll have another go at Hyrox (I’ve done 3), when the entry to UK events gets a bit easier. It won’t be so popular forever and it gives me time to improve (those wall balls sure are hard work).

I plan to do one this year
Probably Birmingham or Manchester ( Nov)

I might go and support super sowler at the end of the month in Manchester, there good to spectate too.
I’ve dropped 3-4 places in the age group on the wall balls in both events I did, I guess some people are just good/ bad at stuff ?!
Sone very fast runners/ cyclists on here who can’t swim very well or at all.

No promises but I might be able to help with an earl entry code if my ( affiliated ) gym gets it, rumours are there doing away with this though ?!?

On the accessibility front, obviously there is from the kit perspective but also from the skill side of it which I think is relevant when comparing it to crossfit. Olympic lifting and gymnastics (kipping PUs, toes to bar, hand stand walks etc) all take a long time to learn and require a very good strength base to perform and LOTS of practice. You don’t need that for any of the movement in Hyrox

I did actually run with my top off twice in December, but that was due to a serious heat rash issue from being in Sri Lanka that the only way to help was to stay extra cool when exercising for a few weeks

In regards to getting tickets. Rox tickets app and also this spreadsheet that if you keep an eye on tickets will crop up on, especially for semi last minute. You’ll need to message the FB group admin. Avoid all the other FB group selling tickets as 99% of people there are scammers sadly.

Non of it is very technical.
That’s for sure.
Certainly not compared to Olympic lifting or swimming
However I know 7? People possibly more who are going faster and faster each race strangely there flat out 5 k times, Olympic lifting totals and general fitness scores ( quite a few seem to be using erg bikes as a measure too) are pretty “ static”

There bodies seem to be adapting to the stresses and strains that a very difficult hour or so brings.
I guess “ you know what’s coming “

From a personal point of virw I think the first 50? Mins or so are easier than I expect, the last half an hour or so is … torture.

Hope your going well ready for the end of the month ?

Saw this and thought of this thread.

Getting a ticket has evolved to a London / Tokyo / New York marathon type farce.
There are people who have been training hard and missed the last 3-4 Uk races.

One couple wanting to do doubles have basically given up.
There is a macmillan charity place but you have to raise 500 quid I think ?
I’m a aware of one guy who just took the place and paid the donation
500 odd quid for a 60-100 min race.

I’ll hopefully get in Birmingham with an early code this year.
It’s a really good sport that has outgrown its self very quickly.

Shout to John sowler who competed in the Pro division in Manchester at the weekend.

9 kg wall balls !! 200 kg sled push 64 kg farmers carry…
Oh my.

A very tough hour or so.
Well done

Wow thats crazy and brilliant . My PT did a team relay Friday , solo and pairs on Saturday - I have a session booked in with him at 2pm - I suspect we will be doing a hyrox type session rather than a strength training one

Yes solo pro must be a dark place at times
Pairs … doable but hard I guess.

Lots of “ moaning “ about the wallball counters
Hitting the centre and getting a no rep must be soul destroying !

Enjoy your session
I’m on for a run through Thursday morning.

His pro time is a min faster than my best open effort!

Pro is a much harder course.
Fit fit lad.

It was a fairly brutal evening! I need a longer more specific training block before I attempt pro again and not have 6 weeks off no upper body training due to tennis elbow (in both!)
Time was 1:19 which I am disappointed with but thats the way it goes.
Sled pull was awful and took me sooo long. After that I was debating if I really wanted to carry on. Got a bit of second wind and cracked on. Managed to only stop once on the farmers carry and the lunges were brutal but not as bad as last time. However the wall ball station was a complete melt down!

Two of the five I knew of doing solo pro were DNF on Saturday, one went 25 mins slower than his expected time … remember Joe skipper ?
I find this sport quite intriguing to be honest
A lad in your wave / or one very near went 1:20.
He wanted 1:14 is but lost all his time on the runs, his stations were good, but his best 5 k ( park run) is 22:30 ish.

He is strong AF. But an “ average “ runner
His sled push is insanely quick, sled pull too, does all his sims with a 10 kg wall ball…

You should be proud of getting through, especially pro weights.

Big announcement tomorrow …?!
London ?!?
If you weren’t so fast we could do doubles!

I can’t which thread it’s in but isn’t someone doing a ‘Dirty Dozen’ race or something like that?

Is that a competitor to Hyrox?

The times required for a podium place in doubles is just crazy now.
An hour was a “ thing “ a few years ago, now it’s “ normal”
