IM Copenhagen 2020/21/22/23

I can literally see the end of the runway from the top floor office window :airplane::denmark:

Just been wandering around the internet and stumbled across a tweet to SAS airlines asking when the direct BHX to Copenhagen route resumes, the answer being October which is mildly surprising as we’re booked to go on that route in August. Might delay my long bike tomorrow I hear something from them.

ETA: no reply but it seems the direct flight is now direct to Frankfurt and then direct to Oslo and then direct to Copenhagen - original flight time 1hr 45m, revised flight time nearer 11h = fuck that

You could almost drive in that time!

Does Manchester count as “transit”?

Direct flights at £44 and 1hr 44mins.
(RyanAir and easyJet)

If it’s not “transit” then you’re stuck with North West 4 day isolation :sob:

The other possible issue with the drive/alternative airports is that I can’t get my bike box in the car.

Spreadsheet time tomorrow! flights, bike transfer, bike hire, deferral

It’s 3 times more direct!

Just spoken to SAS customer service and they are saying the direct flight is still going ahead, doesn’t quite sit with what their agent on twitter said yesterday, very odd. We’ll carry on expecting to go direct until we hear anything else and if they change that when we get to the airport you’ll know about it without using this site!

Unless of course the Midlands hit Denmark’s red list…

ETA - not so sure again, can’t book any direct flights in August/September but then can in October, ffs!

I have an email acknowledgement from IM that my deferal email is being processed. We have an easyjet credit for next year’s flights and out of the blue our travel insurance paid up for our accommodation. So better actually train for 2022 especially as I’ve gone up an age group. Worth pursuing refund and mentioning the insurance ombudsmen as a last resort (we think we found a bit of helpful small print in our policy as well).

Might be entirely foolish but have used my refund from SAS Airlines to dance with the devil, yup, Ryanair from Stansted, didn’t want any possible hassle with flying from the red zone of Manchester. Almost certainly get cancelled but god loves a trier doesn’t he?

Looks like it was foolish, Denmark have put all of England on the red list from tomorrow

Perfect timing - just had the start list through

So Copenhagen has higher rates than London, but … I guess it’s consistent with the Boris school of restrictions!

Bollox!!

Latest news, UK is level orange, apart from England/Scotland/N Ireland still, no date at which that might change but likely to be August 8 onwards which annoyingly is after the last deferral date. Apparently nirvana and another bike shipping company have withdrawn their services which will cause issues no doubt.

Guess I’ll be pressing the defer button tomorrow or Thursday and seeing what the flight/hotel options are and then look forward to the trying the latest new long distance race on the calendar, total field, one.

Ah, thought you were doing quite a bit of focused work lately!

That’s my current thinking. I just want to see how the next couple of weeks play out … both with international travel (in particular Spain and the Balearics) and my own training with all the construction going on. It’s my swim that is the real concern at the moment. 2k seems a long way in the pool, so 3.8 is a worry. I really need to get some regular OW sessions in.

I then just need to check the new job will be willing to give me a couple of days off a month after I start. I have an IM Spain voucher to use…

I found (and still so) 2km in the pool a long way, but 4km OW is nice and relaxed, just like an hour run, but easier :+1:t3:
