I guess because people “changing their name” could be selling their slots on a secondary market?
Earthling 7 - Lanza 0!! I had a decent swim and bike but my run was just awful! Totally expected after years of injuries and hardly any run volume before the race. But a finish is a finish and I am over the moon to do Lanza again.
I had to do this one on my own and Mrs Earthling changed her job recently after telling her last employer to get fuc8$d! and could not get the time to come out with me. I still enjoyed my trip.
Saw the pirates supporting on the run course and gave them a few 'aaarrrrggaghhhhh’s to keep them happy. There was at least 1 pirate I saw racing.
I saw DaveM on the bike at the out and back past Teguise - recognised the Enduroman kit - but never saw him on the run. Well done on the finish.
The bike course is not as good as in years past but the event still gets good support on the island, and running through PDC the support there is on another level in the afternoon and early evening. Loved it. It’s hard to beat Lanza for a great holiday and atmosphere - I am sure I will be back for number 8 at some point. Possibly next year if Mrs Earthling can get the time off work.
Well done to everybody on the finish line - sounds like we all made it home and in 1 piece - congratulations!
well dun Earthling & great report ,i had retired myself from lanza IM after last years race as slowly getting slower , But all the points you making are making think should i go back .out of interest how much longer time would you say the bike is compared to the el golfo loop
I don’t think the bike is slower - its about the same or a bit faster. It’s just not a scenic or interesting as going around El Golfo, through Farmara and up to La Santa. The out and backs are pretty soul destroying into the head wind though. Overall I would still say its a great bike course, but if you have done the original its never going to the quite the same.
I would not worry about the bike cut off if you made it comfortably in years past. Look forward to the support in PDC instead
done the original & a few variations since then ,yeah all been between 6 1/2 & 7hr on bike ( 22 was just under 7), love the "lanza buzz building & after
Yeah, but Arthur turned up during the ceremony (late due to van breakdown or something), the guy in 6th who claimed it offered to give it up so he could take his place, but ironman refused. I refer to joex’s comment
Well done @Earthling, great report and photos too!
Hi all - Any ideas on next years date? cheers
Welcome!
25th May would be my guess. Registration should open pretty soon I think
Nice report Simon
I changed into a different outfit for the “jog” so that’s probably why you didn’t see me.
That, plus the fact you were finished before i was on the second lap!
Will be there next year for hopefully my 5th finish and 40th Iron distance race… 20 years from my first one in Lanzo.
Are you mad
wow very impresive total
Thanks!! did it 09&10 but I’ve worked in school up until this year so looking to go back.
sorry I misunderstood completely-
I thought you meant you had just entered for 2024 but spelt your name wrong!
Term finishes on 24th May, so depends on the date for next year. Definitely want to go back at some point
ETA
Seems anyone who turned up could get a slot to Nice, apart from the winner
Might be a wake up call for them. I don’t think it’s $1k more expensive though?
Comments mentioned $1600 for WC.
45th in age group - surely wouldn’t have rolled down that far
Seems it rolled down to whoever was there
But maybe some editorial licence?
That article states that it’s €1600 which is not only bonkers but €1000 more than Ironman Nice which is the same course three months earlier
Fair enough!
