Injury List- do any parts of you still work?

Sounds like that would have been a more appropriate choice of music for a cardiac MRI

are you sure they scanned the right bit…

I was in there a while, so maybe they did a bit extra for a rainy day!

Well that was FUBAR. Went to Swindon for my stomach thing, all prepped, then equipment failure, had to come home and will get a call about another appointment.

Day off for nothing and I still have no answers. :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

Knee and hamstring have been tight and sore today, luckily I did have a massage booked which has eased them, I was also tired. So just did a bit of upper body work in the gym and will see how tomorrow goes.

I have ordered a long handled massager which will hopefully come tomorrow, there’s a similar one in the clinic at work the chiropractor sometimes uses which is pretty good and powerful. Hopefully this will be as good and easier to get into the hamstrings etc.

My knee was pretty sore on Thursday, I think a combination of the leg muscles being really tight, and 2 hard sessions on Monday & Wednesday. I was fairly sure it was patellar tendonitis but decided to get a proper opinion, my usual physio is still recuperating from an op but went to see a guy who actually works at the Uni but does some private sessions via word of mouth.

Anyway, after various tests he confirmed he’s sure it is what I said. It hadn’t been too bad until Thursday, although a massage had eased the leg in general.

I think it was mentioned above that total rest isn’t necessarily the best thing for tendon injuries and to try and build up the load. I’ve got some isometric exercises to do it and he said to do them on alternated days, try and run if it isn’t too bad but don’t be stupid! If it gets up to 3-4 on the pain scale it’s time to back off. He also said that if it is about 1-2 the day after the exercises but gone after 48 hours then it is improving.

Although I was expecting it I was a bit deflated again as I was slowly building a bit of fitness, but I’ve largely accepted it now and will revert to cycling and probably the cardio in the gym for a bit, and maybe the odd parkrun.

It had eased quite a bit and I did try to go for an easy run\walk today but decided after 1K is was a bit too sore so just had a hike instead, I’ve done the exercises as well.

Hopefully not back to the start but could be 2-3 months depending on how stupid I am or aren’t!

Grrr :face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

Saw my osteo today. After all his questions and checks he’s confident things are moving the right way despite the feeling of a big relapse the last week. Got power and movement in all the right places, said it’s likely just the tissues rebuilding, inflammation in various muscles putting pressure here and there (simple version).

Encouraged me to get back to the gym straight away and now have a more advanced routine to work on for the next couple of weeks. Need to be really careful and steady on the running though.

Unfortunately having to accept that DC2C isn’t happening in April. Was always a long shot. Yes I could probably wrestle my body through it, but would it do me any good?! Likely not.

I want to have an active summer, so I need to be sensible and play the long game.

Boys are planning another Spanish trip this year. If I can convince Mrs GB to juggle the kids for a few days then I can draw the 200 odd quid entry fee over to there instead (as money is really tight). Luckily the RD is mate and will want me to be there in Spain more than at the race! No limoncello related escapades this time though! :joy:

Another early morning at the physio again today, also went last week about the knee, might as well get a direct debit!

This is as much about the cartilage, last week he thought it was still not right but also thought it was contributing towards the fat pad being inflamed and in turn pushing and stretching the tendon.

I did run 6k on Tuesday (he did say to try it) and although it felt tight it was generally alright but a bit sore later and Wednesday AM but settled down.

He thinks the cartilage feels alright now and said to see how it goes. The fat pad felt a lot less inflamed and in turn less pressure on the tendon.

As much as I want to get back running I’ll try and be sensible for the next few weeks and just slowly build up, while also doing the other strength work.

Not getting my hopes up too high though!

I think the knee is slowly getting there, had 2 almost pain free runs last week and even managed 10k tonight on the trail. It has a strange feeling that isn’t painful but hard to explain, maybe jarring. It can be a bit tender afterwards if I poke at it

It certainly doesn’t feel like it’s getting worse and I’ve been increasing the cycling and running. Slightly worried about the trail race in a few weeks but actually think there’ll be some walking due to lack of running fitness!

Also hoping 2 weeks not being chained to the desk might help things as well.

Slow progress which is obviously frustrating but just trying to be sensible.
