I am allowed to jog again
2-3km every other day.
That’s a nice warm-up pre-strength/core session

Update: I saw a private orthopeadic surgeon who is also a professor of medicine, and he has cleared me to do high impact sports, such as running and ski-ing. My knee is in good order and has no heat or swelling and my movement is unaffected. He observed me running, including up and down stairs and sprinting. He was happy that I am no greater risk than any other person of my age for insurance companies. I won’t go into more detail here but he was very helpful. I am seeing a colleague of his soon for the second opinion I need.
Without going into the details of any clinical negligence claim, the NHS in my case seem not quite to have grasped that a fracture will cause pain and limping and that a person with a fracture will recover when it heals. Or to put it another way, they are sticking with their diagnosis of osteoarthritis being the cause of my symptoms for the duration of the fracture and are insisting that these symptoms are still present.
Just getting two private opinions to enable me to get travel insurance is going to cost me around £1000 in travel, time off work and costs, and thats not taking into account any extra I might be asked to pay in premiums because I will have to answer “yes” to the question of whether I’ve ever been refused insurance and so on.
One of the strangest and most disturbing things that has happened to me in my life.
I managed to come off my bike on Tuesday evening, while commuting home. I was only travelling 10mph tops, came to a bend literally 200 metres from my house, that I’ve negotiated 1000s of times. There must have been some oil or diesel on the bend because my front wheel just went from underneath me. I’ve come off my bike a fair few times, but I don’t think I’ve ever hit the ground as hard. Landed on my left hand side, still holding the bars and was completely winded. I’ve really given my ribs a very good clout; not broken but pretty banged up and I’m still pretty sore at the moment. I think it’s going to be another couple of weeks before I can get back on the bike again. January has been completely sh*t. Probably one for the rant thread.
Ouch. Hope it heals soon. Probably in some ways lucky you were still holding on if it was that hard and you got an arm out could be broken wrist or buggered shoulder.
Thanks mate. I think one of the few advantages of getting a bit older is that my reactions have slowed down enough that I don’t have time to put my hands out. Like you say, I think my wrist or collarbone would have gone, if I had done so. Just really frustrating as I was just starting to get a bit of Zwifting under my belt after getting over the ‘rona. I just get the feeling that this might take a while to get over again.
Sorry to hear that mate. Take it easy!
Cheers fella!
Ouch - swift recovery kidda
ouch - heal well
got the MRI on my knee this afternoon to see if I have torn the medial cartilage - won’t know results for 3 weeks though when I have the follow up with the orthopod.
Good news: the ankles/Achilles seem to be pretty much healed up!
Bad news: left knee is swollen and painful.
Bugger.
Gah. The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.
Hope nothing serious with the knee.
ANKLE UPDATE:
Physio yesterday, he says I’m fine
No more than 3-5km at the moment.
Keep the post-pain to 4/10 and if it’s not gone the next day back to 2-3/10, then back off.
Look at Week 4 of Couch to 5km (again)
And work from there
Got Heaton Park XC in two weeks - which is 9km, so that’s a lovely target to aim for!
I love getting old. I’ve hurt my jaw chewing a Mars bar. No idea what’s happened but it fucking hurts.
Serves you right fatty, I know
That has to be the most tenuous sports injury yet on this thread
You didn’t put it in, you know, vertically?
We still talking about the Mars bar?
Would have been better if it was a Marathon bar.
well at least my bowels are fine!
I had a coloncoscopy this morning following a dodgy test result on my last Bowel Cancer Screening test (aka shit on a stick test) a couple of months ago.
had to stop eating for 24hrs after 2 days of a different diet and then yesterday evening take a very powerful laxative called Moviprep (frankly if you take that in prep to see a movie you won’t last longer than 20mins! what a stupid name). shall we say I’ve had more enjoyable evenings?? it certainly clears you out.
anyhoo, camera up the bum this morning and 4 small polyps removed - consultant is pretty sure they aren’t a problem but pathology will decide. Polyps are pretty common in these scenarios (about 75% of patients undergoing colonoscopy have them) so I will just carry on and await the results.
Mate from the Tri club had colonoscopy last week and Mrs J is booked in to have camera down her throat in a couple of weeks. I told her I’m sure they give it a wipe over between customers, she wasn’t amused in the slightest
