Injury List- do any parts of you still work?

So my first run in a month yesterday was apparently still too soon. Kept it short and slow but my shin is really throbbing today and I’m worried I’ve set myself right back to square one. Are these things just trial and error: leave it for a few weeks, go out, hurts, leave it a couple more etc…, or are there more basic tests you can do? I sort of figured 2-3 weeks after I wasn’t feeling any discomfort walking would be alright to start building up some running but I guess it’s not that simple!

@fatbuddha sounds like all is going to be fine but keep us posted. I remember having to get a lump checked out a while back and even though everyone doing the scans and stuff was telling me they were confident it was nothing it’s still a bit scary waiting to hear for sure. The beer tastes extra nice when you are celebrating the relief though!

Been at the other end of that in 2006. when I had a lump removed from my throat. Surgeon was convinced it was benign (an aspiration had shown nothing untoward) but at the follow up meeting he announced that pathology said malignant squamous cell carcinoma. More ops and radiotherapy as a result but been clear now for 10 years.

But yes, we’ll see what comes around but I’m feeling positive given what today’s surgeon said, and data available about the matter.

Off to the physio this evening to see if we can get something sorted with my achillies issues. Did 14k with little or no problem last week, 5k in yesterday at a very easy pace things felt a bit tender in the left one and during the night they’ve both tightened up and are being bastards

Seen physio about shoulder again. Still no swimming or weight lifting. FFS. I should be focusing on running and cycling (and losing weight) but instead sulking that I can’t do everything. Im my own worst enemy at times.

Yeah. I have such an all or nothing attitude, need to find a middle ground somehow.

Luckily no ruptures or issues with the achillies/calf that can’t be fixed apparently. Need to rest for a week or so then re-introduce running with the affected area taped. Also got to do some plyometric exercises. The patient will have to be patient - good luck with that

Had a nasty :shark: attack of cramp in my hamstring while swimming on Wednesday night, so bad I had to pull myself to the lane end with the ropes  . Definitely still feel damaged today - Friday - hoping for a bit more improvement so that I can thrempo a Parkrun tomorrow.

Cramps are weird aren’t they. Hate 'em.

Took the sprogs to Ninja Warrior UK today. It’s two parts, most is a large warehouse sized bouncy castle obstacle course and great fun. A smaller section is more like the TV programme assault course.

Like a moron, I leap on and start doing the monkey bars. Dodgy right shoulder the half popped out and I’m now in agony.

Had to spend the next 45 mins supervising and helping the kids whilst trying not to wince too much.

Bit of follow up to this :point_up_2: from a while ago Injury List- do any parts of you still work? - #250 by Matt_Perks
Not as bad, but got lazy about exercises - as you do - and it came back. Much more clearly some muscle in my arse this time. As well as the same exercises, dropped my saddle 5 mm or so. Seems to have helped a lot.

It’s a year since I slipped on some icy steps while walking my dogs, put my hand down and sprained my wrist.

It took about a month before I could cycle outdoors again and even then every bump and pot hole was painful through the wrist. It got gradually better over time, but even now I still haven’t got full mobility back through the wrist and it’s uncomfortable if I put much pressure on it when it’s too far away from a neutral position.

It’s a mazing how such a stupid, innocuous fall can have such a long-lasting effect.

I’m running a test to see how my atrial fibrillation responds to lack of beta-blocker which I’ve been on since I was diagnosed (along with an anti-coagulant as I had a minor stroke caused by the AF).

I’ve been taking the BB religiously since diagnosis but I’ve never really been happy with the breathlessness and wheezing they can cause (a known side effect of BBs) and recently this has got worse. After my last failed ablation to cure the AF I have developed a good strong HR although still erratic - prior to the ablatioin it used to flutter a lot more - so I kind of surmised that the heart could take the lack of BB.

I stopped taking the BBs a week ago and certainly I am less breathless and the wheeziness has gone. So today I tested how the heart responded with a good test on the rower. I was breathing deeper and felt stronger and my results from the test set were pretty damn good seeing I’ve not rowed for a while.

So maybe the BB is no longer needed as I feel better without it?? Next step - do a few more rows and see how it goes and then talk to the GP about it as I’ve not done so yet!

Always worth experimenting with drugs!

Good luck and although I’d speak to the doc I think they’ll err on the side of caution?

Had a bit of a tight calf for a week or so but nothing too bad, bit of rolling, bit of stretching and been able to run a couple of times no problem. Couldn’t even feel it running, just before & after.
Yesterday & today now got a weird feeling in/around my knee (more on the outside), not a pain or tightness, it’s difficult to describe but feels kind of loose or unstable, a bit weak maybe.
I’m meant to run today but don’t want to risk doing any damage if there’s a problem.
