Interesting on chest infection, I’ve had a cough since last week but nothing too bad. Ibuprofen seems to be taking the edge off at the moment, but maybe get to the docs later in the week if it’s not improved.
Quick hip update. It’s over 10 months since I injured it, and touch wood I think it’s fully fixed now🤞🏻.
I can move in any direction without any discomfort (within the laws of physics , can’t levitate or anything). On Monday ran 13 km with no discomfort at all during or after. 20km 100% pain free is the goal, then hopefully I’ll declare it good as new.
Have been able to start doing some run intervals again with no pain too.
Would like to pretend it’s due to diligent rehab, but TBH I haven’t done anything special, it just got better. Maybe a bit of a swim focus over the last 7 weeks and less running has helped though.
Crazy to think how it was, have somehow dodged a bullet here. The body’s capacity for healing really amazes me.
This is a random one and I won’t be sharing any pics ( take note Fruity!)
I’ve had some toe nails going black, nothing new there, happens a lot in ultra season. They usually fall off of their own accord but on Wed I caught one whilst turning over in bed and it obviously wasn’t ready to fall off, so I’ve essentially ripped it off by accident.
It’s very sore, not sure I’ll be able to start Big Mud on Sunday at this rate but we will see.
Three weeks later and my longest run has been five miles. Hmn. Last week I did a couple of 4.5 milers no problem at all and then last Friday I was dropped off nine miles from home as MrsF drove to work. All going well until three miles in my left leg suddenly got painful (same area, lower hamstring near the back/side of my knee - I think it may be ITB but I’m not physio!). No warning whatsoever and I was running the same pace as earlier in the week. I got the bus home (thanks to having my phone and Apple pay).
Going to try and get round parkrun tomorrow. As for London Marathon in a few weeks time I’m mostly decided that I won’t be doing it this year unless some miracle happens - I’m OK with this decision as the last thing I want to do is get to Cutty Sark and have to pull out.
From a selfish point of view I was hoping we’d be both running a Marathon at the same time / day. Personally I find strength, even from people I don’t directly know, doing and going through the same thing(s). Hoping for that miracle for you.
I know what you mean about finding strength - when you’re going through a tough time in a race it can be a distraction/comfort (even if only for a few seconds) that there are others around you or elsewhere going through the same fun/misery/discomfort.
As for me I think the miracle ship has unfortunately sailed off without me. I am able to run at the moment about three times a week and each between 4 and 5 miles. I got some pain last week at parkrun (and the week before). Running in a straight line seems to work better for me at present - although it’s not perfect - and the twists and turns of London moving around people really doesn’t sound like a good thing for me.
London will have to wait for another time I think - I’m lucky enough to have run it four times now and with a bit of luck in the next few years I can head back there - ideally with a good for age entry - maybe I just need to try and hope that I get slower not at fast as the GFA target times do.
I haven’t run since Mon and it’s been a particularly stressful week at work. I was planning to run today though but had such bad back pain that I was almost in ‘spasm territory’, which I haven’t had for a few years.
It did ease up and I went for a short walk but did hit the sack about 5pm. It feels ok now, will check in the morning.
A bit of glute pain during todays run. It was all in the first 6km of 15km. Nothing failed. I just need to be mindful of it.
I’m trying to walk (run, lol) the risk verse reward line at the moment. After most runs in the last month I’ve had some achilles soreness but this has been getting progressively less. I hope I’ve not tempted fate by saying that.
89km so far this week. Todays runs a part from the glute pain, felt great, legs were strong.
Buggered my knee in cricket nets. Was batting and just jarred it. Dont think its serious but hurts to bend it so no squats for a few days.
Last week some friends asked if I was going to do London this year and I said no. Definitely no.
The following day I got one of their weekly emails from London Marathon (to those who’ve entered) saying something like four weeks to go or something and a link to an article about Chris Finill - one of the six remaining London Ever Present runners. My old London running club used to have a couple of ever presents but they’re down to one now - and I’m in so much awe of them.
Well… this all got me thinking a bit during past few days so I thought if I could get some runs in longer than five miles then I may reconsider nearer the date (ie., probably the night before).
This morning I was going to get dropped off a few miles from home by MrsF as she drove to work but I decided against it as last time I did that I had to get the bus home after three miles. Last minute decision was made to just run from home mostly along the promenade closer to home and no more than two miles from my front door.
I decided to force myself to run slower from the start. My long runs are normally about 8m/miling (5 min kms) but due to averaging about 10-15 miles a week over the past couple of months I went out and decided on 9 minute miles (5:35 ish kms).
Ticked off a little over 9.5 miles this morning. No noticable pain other than it just feeling harder as I don’t have any run endurance fitness.
I’ll see how I recover over the next couple of days and go from there.
I’ve paid twice for London (because of deferring last year) so would really like a shiny medal and t-shirt. I just don’t want to walk the event.
I’d just like to beat my slowest marathon time (Kona from 2015 - 4 hours 36). Surely I can do that if I make it to the start. Fingers are crossed.
I walked and shuffled with regular stops in 2018 as my ITB was bad, think I got 3:56, but went through halfway in approx 1:40
It was a painful second half!
That’s what I’d like to avoid.
Sounds okay to me.
5:30 /km is ~3hr52 which very, very respectable (maybe try to forget its ‘much’ less than what you are capable if not injured, or had a normal build)
4 weeks to train assuming they go well, off such low volume recently, sub 4 would be a great result. Also just getting it done in any time pain free and without further injury is a great result.
Loves me a low volume build for a long race!
Good luck
Arrgh, put my fucking back out!! Proper spasm job. I’m mobile, just.
SDW50 on Saturday fukety fuck.
oh no FP
From all that car washing yesterday?!?
It could be but would be coincidence as it doesn’t feel like this afterwards normally. I know work has had me very run down lately, so probably a combo of that, running around on the weekend etc.
I’m at home on the bed now, it does seem to be gradually easing but it’s slow going.
So, I first remember issues with my groin back in September after being a bit reckless at my local Parkrun & although dropping plated shoes for training helped my calves my groin has been getting worse. Along with sharp pains there was an ever present, muscular, dull pain across the front of what I think is my pubis.
I finally decided to pony up & see a physio on Friday. After a lot of chatting, pulling, prodding & a few tears I came away with a set of exercises to strengthen adductors & hip flexors.
All seems very obvious now.
