when I had mine done, recovery from the op was pretty quick and I didn’t have any after effects. however, back then I was playing rugby so did hang back from playing for a couple of weeks!

Throat update. Went to the drs yesterday. They said tonsillitis and gave me antibiotics. I thought that was something kids got.

Anyway seems to be correct as my throat is many times better today. So odd. Never did get actually ill.

I thought the treatment for that was wire brush and dettol…

Mrs W used to have recurring problems with her tonsils and ended up having one of them taken out about 6 years ago.

Apparently they can’t stitch the wound and just rely on it healing over by itself.

This didn’t quite go to plan and she had two bad bleeds that resulted in a late night trip to A&E and a night in hospital

Interesting, was there a reason why only one was removed? I kind of assumed most times both would be :man_shrugging:t2:

I really don’t know :man_shrugging:

The consultant decided that only one needed to be removed. It was done through Bupa, so maybe the cost issue of potentially needing a 2nd operation to have the other removed at a later date didn’t factor here?

What do tonsils do?

cause grief… :rescue_worker_s_helmet:

When I had a malignant tumour in my neck in 2006 it was thought to be on tonsillar origin and the ENT surgeon said he’d need to remove my right tonsil (tumour was on the R of the neck). I queried why just the R one and not both and he said that the neck and head is not bilateral so what happens on one side doesn’t necessarily happen on the other so just the one was taken out. I thought it a bit odd as well but nearly 20 years on, the cancer’s not returned to the other side.

Maybe it’s an adult thing? With kids AFAIK they usually whip both out to prevent recurrent infection. IDK :man_shrugging:t2::man_shrugging:t2:

Apart from an aching back, woke up right as rain today but in the last 45 mins, just can’t stop coughing. It’s like I’ve eaten spoonfuls of cement dust!

Pulled a rib muscle or something and every small movement seems to hurt, just getting off the sofa, rolling out of bed, bending down to pick up the kids.

Weirdly, it does’t seem to be hindering me doing the plaster boarding very much, so I don’t have an excuse to get out of that. Just struggle to get enough force behind the screwdriver sometimes when in awkward positions, so have to move the ladder round a lot more.

Fortunately the toe seems to be alright after kicking the bed. Painful for the first day, but just a minor throbbing every now and again now. Managed a brief jog after one of the kids, until the rib started hurting.

Rehydrated, caffeinated, medicated, consumed a can of prunes: Lo and behold my constitution has loosened significantly and I’m no longer feeling massively restricted!
apologies for over-sharing!

A cousin of mine came down to the seaside today with her sisters dog. We had a few members of the family around and went to a lovely cafe on the seafront for a light lunch (and some wine). Whilst taking the dog down the beach for a runaround in the waves it pulled a bit too hard and I’m not sure exactly what happened but I’ve done something to one of my toes. Not quite as bad as @BadAsh the other day and that seemingly healed in a couple of days. Hoping mine will be the same.

Gentle turbo tomorrow rather than a run I think.

My right knee is giving some serious pain and I suspect a bolloxed cartilage - making me hobble a lot and not good if I have to be on TO duties at Istanbul this weekend coming.

Local surgery have started on online appointment system so I filled the online firm in requesting a GP meeting not expecting to hear anything quickly. 5 mins after submission I got this:

ā€œYour medical request has been reviewed and we advise for you to attend the urgent same day sit and wait clinic.

Time: As soon as possible, and before 12.30pmā€

So, I’m sitting and waiting!

Sat and waited and saw GP.

Probably a median collateral ligament issue - maybe a slight tear or inflammation. I had a meniscectomy 3 years ago on this knee and the surgeon commented in the notes (that I didn’t see) that I had some MCL damage. Probably relates back to an old rugby injury and the MCL has never fully recovered.

Got some Co-codamol (can’t take an NSAID due to anticoagulant) and will be referred to physio and maybe an MRI.

Just been watching some MCL taping videos which I’ll look more into when back from Istanbul as a help. Might see if I can get it taped by the Istanbul medical team.

In Turkey at the weekend you say? Surely there’s a reputable surgeon that would have a go at your knee :+1:

If I had a spare half hour I might consider it - but full on for 3 days
