Injury List- do any parts of you still work?

I know. Moron. Will try hard to give it another week at least & then see. 3 or 4 week - I hope not - even if just some easy hobby jogging

If not, it’ll be 3-4 months!

Take it from someone who sadly knows from first hand experience.

know I shouldn’t have done it, forgive me @APM but calf really feels like it’s improving, so went out with my running friend this evening. Just slow and careful around town and in Hokas with a lot of heel cushion… I was ready to bail at the first hint of trouble , but it felt ok :crossed_fingers:t2::crossed_fingers:t2:

I have googled some of those exercises you mentioned except not banded clamshells which feels slightly nsfw

Don’t know what you mean :open_mouth:

You Sir, are a kite flying in a hurricane.

How about a compromise? Head to a physio and get it checked out?

Have had a sore hand for a while now, since a pretty heavy fall on a night time technical trail. Went to see my osteo mate today as its peeing me off big time (luckily it’s the left). Turns out I fell almost 2 months ago, and very little improvement.

Most likely a stress fracture, so needs a bit more rest (as much as I can) with some light mobility stuff. No point in wasting time trying to get a scan to confirm, as I’ll just be told to rest.

But as it’s not confirmed, I’m still claiming my absolutely miraculous streak of having never broken a bone in my body despite 41 years of utter stupidity!

Hopefully it’ll start to bloody heal soon though, as it’s frickin annoying.

Had a follow up on this with a NHS Physio today who was very thorough in his investigations.

It would seem that the median meniscectomy I had done three years ago is the cause of the ligament issue as the knee is now loaded on that side and the muscles above and below are not supporting the knee so well, hence the ligament strain and pain.

He reckons another month for the pain to subside (it’s already a lot less than when it started) and I need to do some exercises to build the muscles below and above on that side of the knee (vastus medialis above and upper part of gastrocnemius below). The lack of meniscus will also explain why my right patella no longer tracks correctly and occasionally will snap back into position - which it happened to do so loudly when the physio was examining the knee.

Basically it’s 2 issues - the lack of meniscus on the median side of my knee and age.

Onwards

That’s a bit harsh, as in Bongo’s case, that is like a Giraffe with a sore neck!

I’ll go first.

Found where you fell.

I’m a bit sceptical that someone would get a stress fracture from falling on their hand. They might get an actual fracture, typically scaphoid. Hope it’s not that. But if ongoing pain at base of thumb might be something to think about.

Disclaimer this advice is worth exactly what it cost

I’ve got\had a few niggles the last few weeks that’ I’m trying not to get too bad that I have to stop running as I’ve got races coming up. As usual it’s my left side although I got some advice off a physio friend today that I went to see to be a participant in his research project.

The left knee is one, I have been working on it myself but could probably do with more massages, luckily the student ones are restarting fairly soon. The private one I go to see is a bit difficult atm as most of her appointments are a morning when I’m in the gulag.

Also, when I’m not at work sat at a computer all day they are significantly reduced, one thing he did say was that the use of mice can make you shoulder sore and affect your posture, he did try a few trigger points in my right shoulder and it bloody hurt!

Cheers fruity. Deffo not scaphoid though. It’s more around the big knuckle of my forefinger. No pain at or around the wrist luckily.

Bloody hell, going to post on the weights thread but when I was doing some leg presses earlier something jumped at the top of my left groin (always the left!), wasn’t particularly painful but is a bit sore at the minute.

Hopefully it’ll settle down quickly as I’ve got a big race on Sunday!

Edit: probably as I was trying to do them properly :face_with_symbols_on_mouth::joy:

Does anyone have experience of a bust rib? I went over the bars August BH. Knocked the wind out of me but I seemed fine and did another couple of days riding including a load of off-road and hike-a-bike. A day or two after that a section of my ribs was painful - agony for a few seconds when I sneezed and uncomfortable doing things like getting in and out of bed or the car, and deep breathing. I tried swim training a couple of times but it felt like it might be making it worse. Laid off everything that hurt at all and it’s eased up loads. Now just a mild ache first thing in the morning. Back to swim training yesterday and was okay but definitely took longer to ease up fully this morning. I’m assuming this is all fine and it’ll just continue to heal, but if anyone has any advice then fire away.

I haven’t personally but know a few people that have either had broken or seriously bruised that said it was absolute torture and just had to wait it out as there wasn’t much that could be done.

Does sound like your over the worst of it though.

Been there twice. Took about a month each time & then just got better.

I just got on with stuff as pain allowed. So cycling first, then eventually running and swimming. Actually think running was the worst because I guess you tense the intercostals at various points.

That said, at work did once see a guy with non-union of multiple rib fractures still having problems at 1 year. Noone knew what to do with him. But think that must be pretty rare. Hope that’s not you :crossed_fingers:t2: :+1:

If I was a betting man I’d put a fiver on you feeling a lot more comfy in a fortnight

Apart from sneezing, I’d rate it uncomfortable rather than torture. Perhaps just a deep bruise.

That’s useful moral support, though, thanks.

Aaaah sneezing… flashback :see_no_evil_monkey:

Also laughing :see_no_evil_monkey:

Rib pain is notorious for getting worse in the days after the injury I think, then causing misery for several weeks.

Ah, that’s useful to know. Didn’t feel a thing dragging my bike up mountains and sleeping in ditches for a couple of days.

The thing about sneezing was the few seconds of mounting horror at what was coming…
