I missed most of the men’s race but I thought the women’s race was very enthralling.
A bit dusty here……
Wow, that was incredible
WTF just happened ,amazing finish !!! that is how u dig deep
Pidcock, Yee and then the Women’s Quadruple Sculls. My poor heart, what racing!
Going for a lie down now
Some revenge for all the 0.02s in the pool.
I’m still trying to work out what happened.
My best guess is that Bergere kicked to try and drop the other French guy and was closing in on Yee as a result. Yee dug extra deep to try and hold off Bergere for silver then suddenly found he was catching Wilde at a rate of knots which gave him even more of a lift and the rest’s history, as they say.
If he planned it that way then they need to mint a new Olympic medal for sandbagging.
Please, please, please Oly commentators…
stop saying “a race for the ages”…
in some sense, of course it was…but in another they can’t all be…
At least they’re not saying “grueling” in every sentence.
Yee looked absolutely spent at the finish line.
I think Wilde went backwards more than Yee went forwards, until the moment of the catch. Need to hear from them and maybe see some lap splits.
Yee said in an interview that he was really struggling at 5km and just thought he had nothing to lose on the last lap.
So it seems less of a perfectly executed plan and more of a ‘fuck it, let’s go’
Lap splits are here.
Feel free to make sense of them and then tell us what you see! https://olympics.com/OG2024/pdf/OG2024/TRI/OG2024_TRI_C77A_TRIMOLYMPIC-----------FNL-000100--.pdf
edit Haydens last split was 4:45 (16th fastest). Alex did it in 4:27 (3rd fastest). Hayden was clearly slowing in the latter parts of the race. Alex’s splits were much more consistent it seems. And it paid off.
I’ve also used that plan, with far less success!
Can’t believe this, started watching women’s race on the Iplayer but had to switch to another feed on Iplayer at some point but no problem. Was watching Men’s race but had to pause for a meeting, but it them switches to rowing before the finish!
FUXXSAKE. I avoided this thread with the plan of watching the Triathlon; then I hear my wife chatting to a colleague “Oh J might be interested in that” (me: what?) "GB just got a Gold in the Triathlon" (me: oh FFS )
Send her to the office
yes…i once moved up from 77th to 76th…
But i’ve also done a Wilde before and moved down from 77th to 1,386th…
at the critical moment the iplayer feed stopped and there was a scramble to find the remote…
I just avoided it. Was on a call when the run started and Wilde took the lead. Could see my watch and phone flashing up, so i just turned it upside down and then picked the coverage up just now. I skipped to the last lap, and almost gave up and just went for lunch after seeing how far Yee was behind and with Bergere closing. Glad i didn’t!!
Great stuff!!
