No I’m just interested why people choose to, how they even begin to comprehend the challenge mentally, then physically. How you adapt your training, the monster sessions, the quirky sessions (always remember TTOWEL getting up in the night whilst training for a double to go for a 20 mile run).
So basically… Just wanna be eye on the wall whilst you glean your info and execute the plan
I’m just interested in how far I can go - probably like a lot of people here. I’ve never been the fastest but am metronomic. When i was running well - I began running regularly crazy distances. It became a creative thing. I got really zen. It affected my work.
That’s the thing though I can’t do that anymore so the ship may have sailed. The channel swim though I would really like to do, just not in budgie smugglers and smothered in goose fat.
The guy really is next level narcissist. I was watching an old Norseman (or Swissman) clip the other day where he claimed he’d done 90 Ironman ‘all over the world’.
I probably have the world record for the fastest Tron bike achievement whilst riding a turbo in my own garage and being married to a Korean and living in Hampshire.
I can’t see the comments but I don’t blame IM here. This is not like Specialized going after a cafe owner in Canada. It’s also not the same as an AGer saying they did an Ironman when they did a 226km iron distance tri. (this was extremely common ‘back in the day’ and nobody cared)
This is a guy that will be doing god knows how many talking tours and spots on TV. He’s making zero effort to correct the news outlets because he knows it will benefit his hip pocket.
He’s only just changed his own website to change it from 50 x Ironman. I’d be doing the same if I were IM.
For sure, I don’t much love for IM when it comes to just about anything else. I have some of their merch because I’m proud of what I’ve done but I do remember way back when they went after a lot of the smaller races and essentially wiped them out.
I don’t think they’ve covered themselves in glory during COVID but I also am not an IM hater either. To me, they are a brand and not the sport itself.
Just saw that… I guess I understand the arguments against his last 50 ordeal and the whole branding issue, but regardless - why so much animosity. Yes probably a bit full of himself but then I guess he’s aiming to make some dollars off all this. So he has to broadcast it… I don’t see it as any worse than insipid interviewees on TV pushing their wares. Besides it’s a heck of an achievement wouldn’t you agree? *** Playing devils advocate ***
