Birthday, Xmas and Valentines Day, that’s gonna take you 23 years.
The 70 mile triathlons are 1 mile swim and 13 mile run too. So getting round the “half ironman” copyright issue, or the idea of it being associated with being “only halves”.
I wish him luck and hope the challenge is what he wants. It certainly is a big physical, mental and logistical challenge and not one I am able to do. I just personally find it difficult to get enthused by it given how artificial it is and the history of people who’ve gone before him with similar things.
What’s the definition of a “world record” here? If someone has done more than this, both distance of each discipline, and the number (i.e. >70), how is this a thing?
Exactly this. Although I’d go for the 2x2x2 world record. It seems a lot easier?!
Love the idea of a 2km triathlon. Say 100m swim, 1500m bike, 400m run?
That’s even punchier than Super League, it would be awesome to watch
Think he’s said the record will be the fastest time for 70x70. Which some would say is still going to be 70 days, but assume he’s counting moving time.
If he did it on Jupiter, then the 70 day challenge would only take 29 Earth days.
I see that ironically, the supposed charity this is all in aid of (all about the kids!) is also a cowboy outfit (Operation underground Railroad); led by some religious nut with a calling from God. Basically a have-a-go bunch, not an NGO.
Has James Lawrence claimed to be religious? I know he lives near Salt Lake City, and the charity is led by a Mormon called Tim Ballard. Seems like more than just a coincidence.
Yeah I was reading about that on ST, seems shady AF.
If he finishes, I think he will have done “100 Ironmans in 100 days”. Not m-dot branded events, but I go with John Collins’ definition: if you head out tomorrow and do the distance, you’re an Ironman. He’s doing the distance. He’s not following WTC or USAT or ITU rules, but as Collins said (as a paid guest of IMNZ, no less, in 2000) those organisations don’t own the sport. We – the people who do it – own the sport. The guys, and later gals, who did IMH in the early years didn’t follow those rules either. For them and for IC, it’s a helluva an accomplishment.
Do they have a director of taking posed pictures of directors for the website?
Too top heavy…i want to see the people who get their hands dirty…
but nobody really did back then…even when the federations threatened bans…
The # alone bore me…
I am up for a record, and i guess all records start somewhere, but why create one that has no conceptual meaning (unless i missed it amongst the hashtags) not least when someone could start the same day and beat him…
Just create an event/challenge/ do it and take the plaudits…
5 to go
Interestingly I noticed his IG now calls them “Full Distance Triathlons”
Once he’s recovered from this, he should do a collab with that Dirty Vegan fella.
What’s his CTL right now…?
I see that he is done…
Hopefully at 100?
Today was day 95, I see something earlier about 5 swims left to go. Haven’t seen any updates though since
Day 96 swim is on the IG
