To be fair, I’d rather have a beer with James Lawrence, than Gunther Holtorf, who dumped his son in Boarding School aged 10 to travel the world in a G Wagen with his (3rd) wife and never looked back.
One of our neighbours was an only child and got dumped at Boarding school as a young child when his parents decided to move to France. Funny old thing, they were interested in him when they were old and needed to come back. There are some very self-centred people out there.

If I had to come down on one side re: drafting then yes I would say that he shouldn’t be doing that; in particular when I read the argument that you present. Thanks
I guess with the walking I come back to the point about failing in a challenge. From recollection I think that after a couple of days he was having problems with his shins that effectively meant he could not run. Now I believe at that point you should call off the challenge admit it hasn’t worked this time, learn from it and then try again. However his attitude, as was the case with his previous exploit, was to see how the rules can be bent so that he can continue and claim success in his goal. (I know that walking the marathon is not bending the rules of an Ironman but really, as I said before, where is his self respect)
You are right; it has produced discussion and I guess we all think differently of this ‘achievement’. I hope what he has done inspires lots of people to do something that they personally are proud of. When I think of this week I would rather reflect on two women’s 10000m world records in two days
and the achievements of two guys at the Suffolk Backyard Ultra

Fair enough. We all draw our own lines.
For me, I just disagree with the above. That’s like saying someone not riding fast enough is bending the rules. Or someone swimming breaststroke. Walking is a 100% legitimate way of “making forward progress”, so it didn’t even enter my mind that was cheating or devaluing the challenge. An elliptical in 50/50/50 however…

Thanks @stenard , you are correct we do disagree on this and I am probably wrong to say that he is bending the rules because strictly speaking he is not
For the record my wife agrees with you and she is always right
