Ironman Ireland Cork 2020-23

I crewed for @Chopsey at Noresman…it was fekking freezing, but he raced like it was a summer’s day in a tri suit…not asking for gloves until 100k into the bike (in the sleet) and a jacket about 30k later…

If I had turned up for a training swim and saw that, I’d have put my trainers on and gone for a run, so i doubt many at all trained in conditions close to that.

I’m just working my way down the thread, and can’t reply tonight.

Given this is your second similar post from the sound of things you might already know more about this than me. But if you’re interested in this and I haven’t replied by Monday-Tuesday (when I’m off work) then DM/remind me here.

I don’t know it in detail, but I thought Mike Tipton had shown some stuff on the autonomic conflict idea.

I should be offline for the next week, there’s some interesting research Im aware of but nothing definitive iirc - always happy to learn if there’s something new. :+1:

Was the race scheduled to go ahead next year? That must be looking doubtful now.

This still makes no sense. If you were not sanctioning a race, surely there must be some kind of written record of that, even if it’s just a text?

The whole ‘we told them’ sounds really odd. That’s not the kind of decision that is left to a casual conversation. Surely they have a process that documents the communication of non sanctioning?

probably…but i have a sneaky feeling the IM coffers for this will be bigger the TI’s…

Surely this could have been resolved internally between IM & Triathlon Ireland

Sophisticated US corporation with PE backing versus small national governing body?

It doesn’t sound like an equal fight to me :man_shrugging:

The 70.3 and full for next year was planned for 11th august both on the same day. It was supposed to open yesterday for registration? It’s ran for 3 years and twice there has been a problem with the swim.

I’m fairly sure contracts will be getting checked for escape clauses right now :joy:

If you want better chance of a calmer swim, it nees to have a rethink on location?

Wexford looks like it’s fairly sheltered, and there’s a big tidal lagoon that the date could be set around? Or Rosslare.
