Ironman Lanzarote 2021

who’s that with?

Ryanair for flights from Stansted, and a directly booked apartment in PdC (Club Oceano - stayed there before… its perfectly ok, not 5* but the rooms are a decent size and well equipped, is spotlessly clean, the staff are fab, has a decent pool, and a great bar for beer and brekkie… and a 3 min walk to the IM start line.

Is it too early to change the thread to 2021?

Definitely should add a “maybe” to the thread title.

The same probably applies to most events, certainly in the next 3 or 4 months

Yes; it’s why booking using credit cards and via ATOL businesses is always wise! Using Expedia made it painless when BMI Regional went bust last January, and I had to rearrange flights to Hamburg.

Can you change the thread title to Probably 2021

Canaries have just banned all sporting events of more than 1000 people - effective for 15 days

Was hoping to do Lanza in 21, might be tough to get a place if it rolls over.

2021 is the 30th anniversary year too…

This isn’t IMJ/social media, I don’t think people are going to lose their sh*t if Coronavirus causes race cancellations.

Wait up…!

An interesting question is how CC insurance works if I paid on credit card, but availing myself of the free payment plan option with IM? Each payment was over £100, but is there some kind of way the credit card company might decline cover on this basis?

Also, what about travel insurance where you are still technically allowed to fly to a country, but the entire purpose of going there (i.e. a race) has been cancelled? Would accommodation and flights not be covered as you can still technically go if not on the FCO no-fly list?

Yep. C’est la vie.

Very interesting point @stenard

At the moment I’m expecting my trip to Colorado to be 50/50. But it gets worse each day. Even if we’re able to fly to the states what if once were there we find that the ski lifts are closed? (as they are in Italy atm). That’s the whole holiday down the pan!!

Think a phone call to my travel insurance provider is called for!

I’m guessing travel insurance doesn’t care about your race. If you can travel but choose not to, no refund. Just as if you have booked hotel and flights separately, and flights cancelled. No refund for the hotel, supposed to figure out another way to get there.

That’s only covered by holiday packages and ABTA providers, if I recall correctly.

I thought ATOL only protects package deals?

Yeah, that’s my thoughts too. In that case, I’m glad I have largely cancellable accommodation, and my flights were using Avios which you’ll get back if you cancel. You just lose the cash part, which was under £20. I also haven’t booked my car hire yet, thankfully.
