If you can get access to a rowing machine there’s a bit of crossover for upper body and shoulders fitness.
IIRC that’s something TTowel found, he did a winter of loads of rowing and found his swimming came on better than he thought it would have done.
I’m using the Finis DryBands whilst the pools are closed but still hopeful that Lanza goes ahead in May albeit it’s now a long training day in the lead up to Outlaw which I think will happen.
Should it be off again and rescheduled say until October then I’ll do it. If off til next year then I’ll take the loss. Next year is the start of a TT specific phase and I’ll have no interest in going anywhere near a swimming pool for a few years.
looks like some sort of announcement in the next 2 weeks or so according to social media (fingers crossed)
Got a horrible feeling it’ll be pushed back to autumn or 2022, but I’ll keep the legs ticking over just in case we’re allowed out of the country by then and Lanza is letting people from the UK in which they aren’t for at least another week
This is a 6 hour video from someone’s helmet cam.
Kind of reminds me of that Christmas Eve slow TV thing, reindeer sled across Lapland, except with volcanoes
Did you know that’s the old course?
Just over 4 hours - that’s the big climb with the view that you always see?
Yeah I think that’s Mirador del Rio, have never ridden up there personally though
Covid numbers seem relatively high on the island, 839 current cases with a population of about 151k. Dn’t know what the vaccination programme over there is like.
the old course with the rough road through nazaret.be agood video to watch on the trainer with heating at 25 degreess
remembering to throw your water bottle on the floor at some stage
Just seen that Jet2 (our chosen carrier this year) have cancelled all flights until April 14, not good
Not good
But not surprising.
We live near Manchester airport and drove around the outer service road at the weekend to have a look - so many planes and buses and service vehicles just parked up.
It’s very eerie.
How is CLS still surviving? Pros training with exemptions?
Not sure, are other countries allowed to fly in to the island? must be a few euros coming in from the virtual races but not that many I’d guess.
I think CLS has been closed since the first lockdown last year. It sounds like they’ve taken the opportunity to do a lot of refurbishment work and I think it’s due to re-open soon.
A lot of the apartments at CLS are timeshare, so they’ve already got that portion of revenue in the bank.
What I would give for a pre-covid week there with the family right now
what i would give for a week with JUST me and my bike, trunks & runners ON lANZA
Correct. I’ve only ever ridden up it the other way. The final bit of that climb per the video is a bit sketchy in terms of a descent. The wall is only about one a half feet high, and with the exposed wind I was seriously worried about being blown over! At least the with the IM route and coming up that road, you’re on the other side of the roadway
